Suggestion: The TIE scout ;)

By IG88E, in X-Wing

I like the idea of the TIE scout as a cheap, low damage craft that shines on its abilities. If there was an issue associated with ensuring it didn't flood the table, FFG could simply reduce the number of pilots in the expansion and make them all named - you can't swarm without generics. Fewer pilots might also encourage them to add more upgrade cards into the pack, which would be cool, since the scout would lend itself to unique combinations and customization.

The sensor ping ability would potentially be quite cool - I'd like to see it as the ability to strip a token from a hostile ship. The intent, of course, would be that it would be most valuable used to strip a cloak token, but still valuable against non phantoms. The downside is that stripping tokens feels more like a scum than an imperial ability, though as a system upgrade, it could probably be applied without factional discrimination.

Another cool ability that the Scout might have would be some way to serve as an AWACS vessel and mitigate the disadvantage of range 3 shots. Something along the lines of "Any hostile ships within range 1-3 of this ship do not Gaston additional dice when defending at range 3".

Of course, my favourite thing about the TIE Scout would be it's natural pair on the Rebel side - the Recon-X. :D

One reason I've been suggesting that a sensor ping ability allow an attacker to reroll a defense die is because that's one area in the design space that's available and in the rules, but that nothing really does yet. There are all kinds of things that modify attack dice, but very few that change defense dice.

I'd like to see the TIE Scout, but I think the stats in the OP are too far out of the norm. Were I the designer, I'd say something like:

Red: 1

Green: 2

Hull: 5

Shields: 0

I think it would have actions and a dial very much like the TIE Bomber, but it should have 2 sensor slots and one crew. I'd let the mathwingers figure out the cost of it, but it should be cheap (14-15 points?). Accuracy Corrector would be awesome!

Huh... Finally got around to reading the wookiepedia entry for the Scout, and it's not the typical tiny, swarmy TIE class ship I took it for. This thing is 23m long - considerably bigger than the HWK and on even bigger than the Lambda. It would definitely need to be large base, so I think the risk of it being used as an overly cheap, solider warmer is almost nil.

Careful about reading wookiepedia, much of the information is innacurate and non-canon.

Its a thread about some ideas, not neccessarily for the Tie scout, but it would fit very well.

Concerning your stats: 2 Attack is too much, it should be something completely different, it should shine by its features not by stats. But your ping idea is interesting. Maybe all the effects should affect inside a specific range and not only to one ship

The only reason I went with 2 instead of 1 for the attack value is because FFG has said that they regret giving the Hawk only 1 attack. Also, with a System slot, 1 attack becomes redundant, as you just take an Accuracy Corrector and get 2 hits no matter what.

Right, but then it burns that slot, which would defeat the purpose of the ship in the first place.

It wouldn't shine on its stats. Two attack is not something special unless it's on a swarmer: it's basic armament.

There's one 1ATK ship in the game, the HWK, and the designers actually regret making it that.

I doubt they regret it that much. If they wanted to, they could have fixed it in Most Wanted, which they didn't. That tells me that they don't feel that it is an issue worth correcting.

Perhaps one or two developers regret the one attack on the HWK-290, but probably not all.

As for the TIE scout and the Accuracy Corrector upgrade, by all means put it on. As I see it, the ship would have poor movement that lining up a shot with it would be unlikely. Instead, with poor movement, the options for the system slot would be better spent on other upgrades.
