I like the idea of the TIE scout as a cheap, low damage craft that shines on its abilities. If there was an issue associated with ensuring it didn't flood the table, FFG could simply reduce the number of pilots in the expansion and make them all named - you can't swarm without generics. Fewer pilots might also encourage them to add more upgrade cards into the pack, which would be cool, since the scout would lend itself to unique combinations and customization.
The sensor ping ability would potentially be quite cool - I'd like to see it as the ability to strip a token from a hostile ship. The intent, of course, would be that it would be most valuable used to strip a cloak token, but still valuable against non phantoms. The downside is that stripping tokens feels more like a scum than an imperial ability, though as a system upgrade, it could probably be applied without factional discrimination.
Another cool ability that the Scout might have would be some way to serve as an AWACS vessel and mitigate the disadvantage of range 3 shots. Something along the lines of "Any hostile ships within range 1-3 of this ship do not Gaston additional dice when defending at range 3".
Of course, my favourite thing about the TIE Scout would be it's natural pair on the Rebel side - the Recon-X. ![]()
