X-Wing 2.0...

By Hidatom, in X-Wing

But the upcoming core set ISN'T a 2.0, it's just a refreshed core set with some episode 7 ships and cards....why are people so upset?

Because they think it is xwing 2.0?

But why would they think that?

If the second version of a core set isn't 2.0, then I don't know what is. It doesn't have to be a totally separate game to be 2.0; just revised and updated is sufficient.

Why, exactly, did this get necro'd?

I'll take care of it Brah!

Games Workshop related trauma.

Well, it would be kinda nice to have a new rulebook with ALL the mechanics in one spot....maybe they will have some errata corrections?

What if they just errated a few cards instead of making a whole new version of the game? Really, they could just ban ACD, a single upgrade card, and the meta would cease to be 8 fat turret lists in top 8 at every store championship.

Well, time makes fools of us all.

In order for this game to have variety, the ships must have a difference in how they play. That means there will always be some ships that excell against others. There is no debating that some ships are not exactly worth their cost in points. But even if every ship was worth the points you paid for it, there would still be some ships that out match others. It's the nature of the beast. Especially since tournament play is done at only 100 points which makes it hard to effectively cover all squad types (paper, rock, scissors) in one build. Sure some of the ship's could use some help, and others the opposite, but it will never negate the element of chance (as in paper, rock, scissors) that this type of game naturally creates. Chess is about as balanced as it gets because both players have the same game pieces. But even chess still isn't totally balanced because white always goes first.

Yeah the game could use some tweaking, but considering the style of game, I think FFG has done a pretty **** good job.

Your guess is as good as mine.

2.0 might be a bit down the road, but the size of the FAQ, and all these rules cards, tells me it's time for at least Rulebook 1.1

Armada was 2.0

Xwing new core set is just a rebrand with updated core set

2 reasons:

1) People populate the front page of the forums with complaints, when in reality most people are happy with the game (besides a few things that could use a fix, like the advance needed, and the X-wing does need). I would be an assumption that FFG has seen these complaints, and if they saw enough they might be compelled to make a new, unneeded, 2.0 version.

2) GW just finished bringing "2.0" to one of there major games that has been around for years, and the general consensus for age of sillymar so far is that it's a meh game, overall decent rules, but has some extremely broken mechanics. I would be safe in assuming that X-wing does not need an overhaul of that magnitude.

2.0 might be a bit down the road, but the size of the FAQ, and all these rules cards, tells me it's time for at least Rulebook 1.1

That would be a fair, the rulebook definitely needs to be updated to 1.1, and it would be nice to consolidate all of the upgrade cards into one booklet.

I love your emotes so very much.

Honestly I'd like to here some discussion on how Star Trek Attack Wing is broken.

The Reliant is bigger than the Enterprise. That's enough for me.

I love how Rebel, Scum and Empire are all working together in harmony yet the e wing and z95 are drinking coffee or passing a doobie or something and clearly not even facing the right way haha

I'm almost certain that the new core set is not XWMG 2.0 but the current game we all know and love just with up-to-date rules/definitions, new pilot and upgrade cards, X-wing fix, plus the new models of course.

The idea of a core set is most likely for marketing purposes to coincide with a new generation of Star Wars films and also draw in new blood to the game that would've become fans because of the new films.

I wouldn't be betting on an X-wing fix. The new Core only has 5 upgrade cards and the T-70 clearly is a different ship. And having a Core set have a fix goes against their beliefs on what a Core set should be. I wouldn't bet on the individual releases either. Remember that FFG is significantly further ahead on development than we are.

Hear Hear.

You have a point there. The X-wing fix may not be in the core set but I still believe it might show up in the T-70 expansion pack. The community has been talking about the X-wing needing a fix as far back as last year and FFG would've immediately picked up on that.

Yup, that is Corran & N'Dru. (two of the best killers in the game)!

They are about to zoom right out of the picture and go to work on the offending poster!

:angry::ph34r::D

See how they are looking out at potential trouble makers on our forum... while their boys clean up the mess?

Dammit-dats my story, and I'm sticking to it!

I didn't just make them for me... even if some meanies hate similes and emoties.

We have our love and that is better.

^_^

even if some meanies hate similes....

I don't hate them, but I do prefer metaphors.

To me ordinance is the big area requiring a fix.

I would like to see the following:

1) If the attacking player has a target lock on the defender then no defence dice can be used against the ordinance attack dice but evade tokens may be spent;

2) Ordinance attack die cannot be rerolled for any reason;

3) To make the above fair, ordinance attack dice cannot be increased in any way through upgrade cards or native pilot abilities;

4) Ordinance can be fired without the need of a target lock but then the defender gets to roll all applicable defence dice and use evade tokens as normal;

5) Homing missiles (who already benefit from #1 get the following added benefit) that do not hit automatically roll again in the following turn, then if they do not hit they fall away and can trigger munitions failsafe if it is equipped;

To me the above makes the most sense. Think about it logically. In normal military aircraft if they have a solid lock on their target and fire a missile, the target is pretty much dead.

Firing without a target lock is allowed but naturally less accurate.

Homing missiles should be able to follow their target for a short duration.

There needs to be an incentive to shoot a missile/torpedo over a conventional primary or cannon weapon, especially since the attacking player has had to pay extra for the ordinance and does not get reroll benefits from a target lock.

Your thoughts?

Seriously. The mistake you're making here is trying to make missiles and torps "realistic" (and really, there aren't scare-quotes big enough for that word in relation to a Star Wars dogfighting game) without considering what effect that would have on the GAME. I'd like ordnance to be a hair more useful, which is why I'm excited about stuff like the Tracer missiles in Wave 8. I really, really, really, really, really, REALLY don't want the alpha strike to rule the meta.
