Heroes Turn order

By btdkvega2, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi. I/we just bought the game base game. We love it.

Now we are reading rules and talking about what we have done wrong etc. You all know the drill with a new game. Ofcourse we are consulting the faq also. Here it says :

Q: Do hero players have to agree on their turn order before the first hero acts?

A: Hero players do not have to determine the exact order in which each

player takes his turn at the start of the round. They only need to decide
who is going to take their turn first. After each hero player takes his turn,
they can decide who takes their turn next.

The rulebook says :

Each round, the hero players decide as a
group the order in which they wish to act. This order may be different
each round.

Now we are thinking why ? Is there a reason for this "errata"?

I can see a point in it regarding the heroes. 4 heroes. first 2 get knocked down and the healer is now the 3rd player. Maybe it would be better to save it for the last turn instead. You don't have that option if you go by the rulebook.

I guess its for a better flow ?

Thanks for reading

Yes, I think this is mostly to keep the flow, and in some way it balances the game. Heroes can develop their tactic, but OL can spoil it with card play.

This wording in errata gives heroes possibility to adapt their tactics on the fly

Player (Hero and OL) actions can change flow of a round. For example, If the Ol blocked off a corridor the heroes need to pass through to reacha door that requires a test to open, the heroes might want to have one hero attack first, to clear the corridor and then send in the "tester" but if the first hero fails to unblock the corridor, then what?

This allows them to adjust and send in another hero to try and clear the blockers, rather than send the one they had nominated beforehand.

There will be many times were you'll encounter these types of situation, whether due to luck of the die, or OL action.

I don't read the FAQ differently than the rulebook. It doesn't say "at the start of each round, heroes decide" it just says "each round, heroes decide." To me, that leaves open changing the order at any point during a round. The heroes do not need to pick their whole order ahead of time, they just need to decide who is activating next, just like the OL can activate monster groups in any order he wants.
