Building an Armada Facebook site (NYC/Long Island NY):

By EmpireErik, in Star Wars: Armada

Being new to building a Facebook site with the quality demonstrated in related posts, can people offer any suggestions?

Can I use the pictures from FFG at will for the Facebook title page and posts?

Is there anything special I need to know that lies outside me building a personal Facebook page, such as security, locking the photos or such?

Thanks, I am starting to look into this.

Technically, I don't think you're supposed to use images, but nobody's going to send you a cease-and-desist order about it. I went and mashed up a number of images, and created my own header design: Armada Admirals of Portland

In terms of best practices, I don't know what really works best. I think it will depend on the scope of your community, and the sort of community you want to build. I am preferring a tighter-knit community over a larger looser community. For that reason (and copy catting my local X-Wing Facebook group), I made it a closed community in the sense that I had to approve membership. That allows me to track and get to know the membership a little better. However, I don't know if that was the wisest decision, just the one I went with.

In order to get that up and running, you have to invite (coerce) at least another friend to join. I'd also say that you should advertise it lightly on the facebook groups of related games you're on, but don't abuse that. Because the game isn't out yet, there's no point in spamming, but it's good to keep your ear to the ground about people expressing an interest. You can then invite them personally to join your Armada FB group.

Great thoughts Mikael. I'm taking another approach so like was said feel free to cater to your crowd. I've got an open page instead of a group, so it'll be more informational but with a place for conversation if people would like. I figure groups will form on their own, I just want to be a catalyst for the game in my general area. You can check out the page in my signature if you'd like. I've got links with selected pictures to each of the news posts, and I'm working out a format for presenting which stores in the area will be hosting tournaments. Eventually I'd like to make a partnership with a certain store in my area official and start promoting them in exchange for perks for the Armada group.
