What will the next epic Imperial ship be?

By Koing907, in X-Wing

What could fill the role of the Imperial match to the GR-75? Will FFG create another new ship?

I think this TIE carrier from SW:Rebels might be an interesting support ship.

Lemme just start by saying, this thread topic has been discussed to death. The Gozanti seems to be a crowd favorite. If you wanna see people's opinions on the subject, a quick search will answer that much.

Personally, I don't think another Imp epic ship is coming. Epic never really took off, probably because X-wing is a cheaper mini's game, and people love it because of that fact. If you've ever played Epic, you know how long those games can take. The quick 100-150 point dogfights are perfect as they are, and bumping that up to 300 is...well, not really the same game. Armada is coming out, so I think capital ships will stay over there from now on.

Welcome to the forum, and to the game!

Honestly I think we will see more Epic games after the Raider hits the stores, but it will still be the off game played every now and then. I myself am looking forward to facing the Raider with my pack of Rebel scum.

As for the next Epic? The Gozanti is the top choice among the X-Wing crowd but FFG is known to surprise. If it is the Gozanti expect its fire power to be less than the Raider's but it will most likely be a good support ship.

Armada though will not replace the feel of an Epic game. Its feel and style of play is going to be different than X-Wing in a way that they will feel like very different games. (And they are and should be.)

It will be interesting to see if epic finally takes off after the Raider hits.

I certainly hope that it will, because I thing huge ships are great fun. But I also know that it takes more time and agreement to make happen. Those are two scarce resources for many people.

If only I had the prescience to see that many years into the future.

Prescience? Can Orkz take Prescience?

Anyways, if the Raider is a smash hit, whose to say that they would go with another In-House design?

Power of the Waaagh! and Daemonology only, sadly. The boyz make up for it with the sure knowledge that they will never lose a battle; if they win they win, if they die they die fightin' so it don't count. If they runs for it they don't die neither, cos they can come back for annuver go, see!

Well given the length of time since they announced the raider I'm not sure we will get a second ship, cr-90 and transport were revealed by this point.

Which I'd be okay with the raider is very nice and the fact it comes with tie advanced fixes and new pilots means I'm getting alot for my money.

Datz day roight propa spirit dere greenskin!!

I don't understand the sentiment that epic was lagging due to no one wanting to play previously and that feeling continuing...

It completely discounts the fact that ONLY ONE SIDE HAD EPIC SHIPS...which blatantly stupid to begin with...with the empire finally getting their own unrest should increase...the cr 90 should have been cross faction.

The fact that it is easy to explain WHY it has been lagging doesn't change the fact that it is.

Yes, hopefully the release of the raider will see a dramatic upsurge in epic play.

The Gozanti is only marginally larger than the Falcon. No way it would work on the Epic Ship scale. Since all Epic Ships are basically cut down to half size, they woudl have to make an epic ship that ends up looking smaller than the Falcon... that that simply doesn't make sense.

Bit your tongue. Even if Epic doesn't take off we still need at least one more Epic ship and it needs to be Imperial. The Raider and ...

The Gozanti is cool and has fan support but it is small. So I don't really know. I like the Raider and I'm in for that.

P.S. more missions would equal more Epic games, just my thoughts.

I get that it is...I feel the why is because only one side had huges...I don't see how pointing to the fact that it is lagging now means it will lag in the future...I think the main why is being addressed with the raider.

That's what I was trying to say...perhaps I wasn't as clear as I would have preferred to be...

I don't think that's the canon length. The actual size is 63.8m (according to Wookieepedia, that's drawn from a canon source, the SW: Rebels Visual Guide). The larger size also agrees better with Rebels, and in particular with the images that show it comfortably carrying four TIEs.

It would be neat if the Gozanti came with a TIE Fighter alt paint model and new TIE Fighter pilot cards. The TIE Fighter is the oldest dog in the game that hasn't learned any new tricks yet.

What more can they do with tie pilots though, we already have loads of solid named pilots.

I wouldn't read too much into the spacing of the releases of 'Epic' ships on the Empire's side.

I think FFG learned a lesson from the 'Epic' Rebel release, in that if you put too many ships that are THAT expensive in the market at once...they waste space sitting on the shelf, as it's a much smaller pool of people that can buy them.

Pretty sure FFG realizes they would have been better financially served by releasing the two Rebel 'Epics' six months to a year apart, and instead using that space to get reprints of the Falcon, Slave-1, etc out earlier. I mean, don't get me wrong, the ships are cool and all and I love having them - but there isn't a shop in town that doesn't have multiple copies of each one of them on its shelves, while there are no Falcons or Y-Wings or etc to be found...and it's been that way for about a year.

Yeah but place 4 TIEs on a Falcon, and you'll see that it simply doesn't measure up. Even if the Gozanti is twice as large as a Falcon, that would mean if they made one at the same scale as the other Epic ships, it would essentially be Falcon sized... which would just be wierd.

I suppose it would be possible for them to make an epic ship at a different scale, but then you'd have yet another inconsistency of scales. Ideally , if they made a Gozanti, I think it woudl be best if it were simply a large ship rather than a Huge Epic ship - this way they can keep it to the same scale as the TIEs, so you can physically like them up with it. Otherwise it's not gonna look right IMO. But still then you'd have a large ship that is probably even bigger than a Decimator... so I just don't see how it could be done.

My money had always been on two blue TIE Fighters and a good bunch of new pilots coming with the Gozanti.

I'm still not sure how the Advanced coming with the Raider affects my math, though...

I think the next huge ship will be for the scum

I think it's interesting that FFG said the next set up in size from the VT-49 was the Lancer in the Raider article, hence the invention of the Raider.

That'd imply the Gozanti wasn't considered.

Citations on Epic not "taking off" or the models sitting on the shelves, please. Because they went back for a reprint really quick. I want to say June or July, only 2-3 months after release. Do they sell as much as the smaller ships, of course not. And you would be silly to think that is what FFG was expecting.

Depends on what they were trying to do.

If they wanted to make a single Huge ship for the Imperials one they could package with the Tie Advanced fix, then the Gozanti may of been rejected because it didn't fit with the type of ship they wanted.

They may want to make one, but have it be mostly a support type ship, like the GR-75, so it didn't offer them what they wanted at this time. That does not however mean it won't be considered as a support type ship.

Keep in mind that FFG is going to reprint a product once it looks like THEIR stock is running low. That doesn't necessarily have any bearing on whether the stock the distributors bought from the is running low. It has not been difficult to find CR-90s for 50-55% retail price. Do we know if they have had a second reprint? Because that would indicate that the distributors ran out and ordered more.

;)

Seriously, the Black Suns used them a lot during and after the Clone Wars. I would think that that hasn't changed much. The the Syndicate used their own I believe and the Hutts used whatever.
