ideas for a derelict ship

By miishelle, in Game Masters

Maybe reveal an ancient deep space creature is actually anchored to the rear exterior of the ship having leeched all the power as its bacterial symbiotes cleansed the interior of any life in a manner that resonates strongly with the dark side but only once they're inside the ship after all if they're force sensitive would you risk scavenging something radiating evil?

So they board the ship end up having to repower parts of the ship waking the creature and in turn its symbiotes leading an initial fight but as long they didn't directly connect their ship to the derelict to repower they have a way off the ship... they didn't... uh oh...

Imagine their reaction discovering that the derelict appears to be partly organic after a while searching the interior then notice there's passageways sloping downwards now why does it look like a throat?

that's still.something they can fight and I don't want to give them an enemy. I want to give them a ghost snip. emphasis in ghost.

You could just make it a walk over to a new adventure. Lets say that this ship contains dead people and are drifting around , but contains clues to a lost ship with great treasures.

Then you use the ADV book that is released named Beyond the Rim to continue the adventure. Maybe change/add somethings about the story if it suits you.

Alalready did beyond the rim with the group when it came out :( good idea though :)

I already know what im going to do. Marie Celeste. nothing wrong with the ship. just no one there. let the atmosphere be the adventure. no bodies. just eerie.

You may try put in something special also. What i like to do is throw them a bone and see if they bite. Challenge their demeanor. In your setting i would probably challenge their greed.

They would find the ship empty and abandoned , nothing much of value. But on one dead body there is an item that may look valuable for the players. If anyone find the urge to steal that from the dead body they would have a problem later.

The item will be recognized by the brother of the dead guy in a cantina or other setting later. Giving the player problems when the brother thinks the player have killed his brother and stolen the item.

Ever watched Star Wars Rebels?

Specifically the Rise of the Old Masters, now imagine a ship's computer its holographic emitters fluctuating showing glimpses of people and events that disappear around corners or doors shut in front of them and if opened reveal dark dusty chambers if not open to space...

Heh now I'm remembering the start of KOTOR 2 where a droid has to repair the ship before bringing the ship's crew out of bacta tanks... now imagine starting there with your players waking aboard a damaged freighter with no idea what had happened and then reveal the horror they survived and what they do from there... of course their ship needs repairs and parts to get it working luckily their ship isn't the only one drifting out here...

Perhaps you could have the ship be in some sort of an ion field that drains power from vessels. The crew of the derelict ship found a way to shield their life pods/ smaller ships/ whatever so that they were shielded from the field and could leave the area but they were unable to take the derelict. You could have clues hidden in engineering notes (handwritten) parts of the ship with material salvaged from them that appear random. When the crew figures out their ship is losing power also they will be stuck and have to investigate the derelict to discover how to escape the ion field.

Oh.. I like the holographic emitters idea more than my force visions, even better reason why the party could see what happened then strong force event.

Would that be a “ Promellian battle cruiser ”? ;)

After reading your link, I would say it is definaly similar. My last derilict had a prototope droid on it that would break into peices (minion group) and then re-assemble into a single large rival moving about throughout the ship. It would fire than disapear before the party could do anything, but the OP wanted something without combat.

- It is in fact, a valuable derelict ship. However, it is being used by pirates to bait salvagers in. They'll have to deal with the pirates before they can capture the ship.

- The ship appears to be part of an Imperial convoy fleet. It appears to be in good condition but is not operating. Ships like this are very valuable and contain a vast amount of data and valuables, but collecting them is against Imperial law and punishable by death.

- Sensors reveal that the ship has an inordinate amount of life signs. In fact, too much organic activity to be that of a crew. Most likely, it has been infested by some sort of organism. But what?

- Or, sensors reveal that the ship has no life signs. There appear to be a large amount of droids still actively working on the ship. But what are they doing? And why are they there?

Hope these suggestions inspire some ideas...

I already know what im going to do,but thanks.

I really mean it. thanks everyone

once you have your session please share with us how it went!

I will :D

You already have your plot but I'm going to add this one as it may be one I do. It is a stargate:Atlantis episode so you may recognise it.

The players come across an abandoned ship floating in a remote part of the galaxy.

The ship is an ancient Galactic Republic vessel from the Jedi/sith wars. It had valuable information needed by the Jedi to defeat the sith but could not make it home. To preserve the ship the crew went into deep sleep with their minds preserved in a group VR system.

The power left is not enough to rescue everyone and the players entering the ship have restarted an auto beacon and there are bad guys in big ships incoming or some other time pressure.
