Blighted townsfolk and home locations

By Mariana the Ex-Nun Cultist, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello everyone,

Most of the blight cards have an "obvious" home location (so to speak).

But can I check opinions on my assignments? There are a couple I'm not 100% sure on, I've either seen the names on encounters somewhere but have forgotten where, or I've frankly just chosen where I think most apt.

These ones seen straightforward:

Dr Mintz @The Asylum
The Dean @ Admin
Fr Michael @ South Church
Sheriff Engle @Police Station
Ma Mathison @ Ma’s
Doyle Jeffreys @Newspaper
Velma @ Velma’s
Nurse Sharon @ St Mary’s Hospital
Shopkeeper @ General Store

Abigail Foreman @ Library (she is the librarian, right?)
Miriam Beecher @ Magic Shop (based on her effect, but she does turn up at the magic shop, doesn't she?)

Oliver Thomas @ Curio Shop (no good reason here, except that this is one of the few stable locations with no blight card and he has a talisman in his picture, does he figure in any location encounter cards?)

Joey the Rat @ Hibb’s (I'm fairly sure this guy hangs out at Hibb's. But if I wanted to relocate him to a stable location however, which would seem more apt, the docks, the bank or the train station?)

Thanks - Mariana the ex-nun cultist

(ps In case you're wondering why I care, the locations are important in a scen I sometimes play).

I don't mean to be rude, but why don0't you just read all the encounter cards?

Joey apperas at Hibb's and (if I remembercorrectly) at River Docks and Ma's Boarding house. THat's why they call him a "rat" :P

Oliver Thomas is the Curiosities Shop's owner, and I don't remember seeing him elsewhere.

Thanks Gott.

Oliver is the curio shop owner, that's good. I pretty much never take actual encounters at the Docks or Ma's and have never met Joey there. I meet him with astonishing regularity at Hibbs.

Er, isn't that why we have an on-line community forum?

So we don't have to read* all* the encounter cards to check things like this.

Looking up a specific card such as an ally or item doesn't involve a great deal of time and spoilers, but looking through all the encounters is a little different (IMO at least happy.gif)

Well, I admire and agree with those people who manage not to read all cards after owning the game for motnhs or years happy.gif

But you know, many locations (stable ones mainly) are visited very rarely, so you can't blame curiosity gran_risa.gif

I think I have seen people having encounter at Ma's or the Police station just some 3-4 times in 3 years, while the Unnamable, Woods, Unvisited isle (everybody hunting down John Legrasse like a fox cool.gif ) and Witchhouse get visited no less than 5-6 times per game. Encounters are becoming a bit monotonous there.

We managed to have River Docks being visited more often by using them like the Train Station, so that you can travel by there to Kingsport or Innsmouth, arriving into a different location than the train one.

This helped a lot.

Not as much as I admire people who read the encounters within a couple of months of buying the game and can still remember them rather than having to reread them to find out stuff gui%C3%B1o.gif gran_risa.gif

There are only a few stable locations that i go to regularly for encounters and olny then when there is no obvious job to do. Newspaper and bank were long term favourites, Admin or sometimes library has caught on recently. I play mostly multi-investigator solo and it is easy to fall into patterns of behaviour. I think I'd see more of other locations in multiplayer games. E.g. when my daughter plays she always goes to the church to lok for a blessing after she found one there on the first occassion she visited.

I have a couple of scens that I wrote to provide reasons for visitings table locations and taking encounters there, mostly involving searching for Maguffins or MacVillans. Also I like adding in extra jobs for players to tackle, but the Personal Stories in IH are a good take on this aspect, much better than the tasks and missions which I nevre liked much in practice although the idea was neat.

Sorry wandered completely OT happy.gif

Joey could turn up anywhere, in my experience. In addition to Ma's, Docks, or Hibb's, I've seen him at Bishop's Brook Bridge and (I think) the bank.

Oliver Thomas is the owner of the Curiositie Shoppe, but that wasn't established until the King in Yellow came out. As a result, "the shopkeeper" appears on several encounters there.

Some of these guys seem to travel around. You're at risk in a few locations if the Sheriff, Oliver Thomas, or as you pointed out, Joey, are currently insane.
