Calculation EPT

By X Wing Nut, in X-Wing

Same for Ten Numb, too. Sure, the Mangler cannon is great, but it's 4 pts. Now, you can spend 1 pt and use his ability more often.

I can also see it as a good option for Darth Vader, as well. Yes, Predator is better, but it costs more. If I were looking to save points...

Kath Scarlet (38)
Calculation (1)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Rebel Captive or Recon Specialist (3)

Stress machine.

What about this:

Kath Scarlet (38)
Calculation (1)

Slave One Title (0)

Flechette Torpedo (2)

You get the TL the round before. You then fire it at something....maybe a Phantom or Interceptor with Auto Thrusters. You flip one to a critical, which they evade. That causes stress. Then, you cause another stress from the flechette torpedo!

You can even throw on Tactician and make sure it's at Range 2 for a triple stress.

Hm...

The Calculation Swarm

OGP (21)

- Fleet Officer (3)

Black Squadron Pilot x 5

- Calculation (1)

Total: 99

Could be fun :P maybe toss a Wingman on a BSP to remove stress from OGP and put you at 100/100.

My question is what makes this cost only 1 point when marksmanship costs 3 points and takes up an action?

It changes only one result. Marksmanship can change as many focus results as you roll.

Technically, Calculation requires specifically that you have a focus token, and usually that will also take your action.

That reminds me that it could also be a good one on Jake Farrell, who is going to focus anyway.

Marksmanship is kind of terrible. So this is a better version of the same idea, priced to provide a commensurate benefit.

Just realized that Ten + Calculation + Ion Torpedo would be kind of nasty. 4 dice, and the odds are _very_ good that _something_ is going to get through. If the opponent is next to another ship or two or three... that's a lot of ionization.

Pretty much what Punning Pundit says. Unless you were planning to make multiple attacks in a turn, Marksmanship wasn't a good investment of your squad points because it does only a bit more than focus on offense, and doesn't offer the offense/defense flexibility of a focus token. You can call it power creep or you can call it a fix, but Calculation is priced where Marksmanship--in its iteration as an attack boost for a single shot--probably ought to have been.

(There are reasons to still take Marksmanship at 3 points, but most of them are named Gunner or Corran, and there it was already a good buy and doesn't need help.)

True but there are more ways to get a focus token than a free action. You can steal it with Palob of Lecheros or have Kyle or Wes give you one. It seems like Calculation gives you way more flexibility for only a single point. Sure marksmanship can make use of two focuses but how often do you see 2 focus come up with nothing else?

But yeah send it to the stat boys to do the calculations. I am sure there is another thread talking about the statistics of a critical hit doing an extra damage.

When I first started playing the game, my buddy and I hadn't realized that Marksmanship required an action. Man, let me tell you how awesome Luke + (actionless) Marksmanship + R2D2 was!

Side note: can I tell you how smug I'm feeling for having posted this 2 weeks ago:

It's not identical, but it's the same general idea.

Way more often than you'd think.

Marksmanship is more specialized. When attacking with four or more dice, it's generally better than Calculation due to the higher chance of seeing more eyeballs. When attacking more than once in a round (Gunner, Corran Horn) it also works on both attacks.

For one point, I'd actually consider this EPT on a Jan Ors HWK with Crew Kyle and a Blaster Turret. I've always been reluctant to give her an EPT, as that build is already 32 points. Pushing it to 35 points with Predator is overkill for what she does. 34 points with Swarm Tactics forces her to fly in formation and makes her too big of a target. 33 points with Calculation gives her flexiblity (she rarely sees more than one eyeball) and a little more punch without really bloating her cost.
