Calculation EPT

Literally how?
There's confirmation on the Aus X-Wing FB Group that a shop was selling some Scum ships on the weekend.

I think someone who was not supposed to sell it sold it to him

Ok cool. I like this EPT, it's situational.
Also Kath+Calculation+Recon Spec = Maximum value from 2 focus tokens. Nice.
At 3 dice, it'll be relevant 15% of the time. 2 dice, 18%.
The probability of obtaining exactly one eyeball result from three dice = 27/64 = 42.1875%
The probability of obtaining exactly one eyeball result from two dice = 3/8 = 37.5%
Yep - you're right, did my math off one dice combo (Eye-Not-Not) rather than all the possibles.
Congrats on finally finding something I was wrong about ![]()
Still a pretty poor card, honestly. We've had any number of single-crit abilities (Merc Copilot, Winged Gundark) that haven't proven to be worthwhile. I doubt this one will be different outside a few corner cases.

I'm more surprised that there are copies off the boat already. Though I guess if it's Oz...

all us X Wing fans used the force and together we managed to turn the boat towards us ![]()
Nice for Ten Numb obviously, but also its kind of a nice just in case card. It's one point, chuck it on someone who was going to focus anyway, and if you only roll one eyeball might as well make it a crit.
Also could see it being used in focus factory lists with Garven and Kyle. Either way it's a cheap filler upgrade rather than a game maker.
I didn't read the "spend a focus token" part and still thought it was pretty meh. Now it's double meh.
It might prevent some interesting choices, though. You're firing at a Decimator with an A-wing at range 1. The Decimator has no shields, you roll a hit and two focus. Do you use Calculation or normal focus? Some crits are really worth it...
It's nice to have a 1-point offensive ept finally. It's not awesome, but for one point I'll throw it on something as long as Decimators are popular.
Hello Maarek with your ATC dealing two crits.
Hello Maarek with your ATC dealing two crits.
Assuming you did not need the TL to hit and only rolled one eyeball. I think I'd still prefer lone wolf or predator on him.
This has a home on Keyan if you can find another way to accurately stress yourself.
Oh man, here goes
Keyan Farlander 29
Calculating 1
Experimental interface 3
Lando crew/e2 4
That's a 37 point Farlander that can be target locked, focused, evaded, and stressed every turn.
I mean the odds on all that are low, but when it happens. Man.
I really don't think so. Any time you've got more than one eyeball, you're going to be giving up damage to use it. Any time your opponent has shields, it's going to be equal to a focus, at best. There's a reason it's only 1 point.
Look at the other 1 point EPTs.
VI, Adrenaline Rush, Deadeye, Determination.
(The one I think it's most comparable to is Determination.)
But with all of them, you don't have any guarantee that you'll make use of them at all during a given match. (Or they're limited-use, in the cases of AR and Deadeye)
I think it fits well with the existing ones. Filler points, for the most part. (What else were you spending 1 point on? If you don't care for initiative...) Not guaranteed to be useful.
But if you get the right situation, you might be glad you have it.

E2 and EI are both mods so this can't work.
But I commend you on your efforts to try and make Keyan more viable. I for one wish he was.
Edited by barabelsftwPeople didn't use Marksmenship in the past and that is superior to this in that it changes all eye balls over to hits with one becoming a crit and works on multiple attacks such as gunner and Corran.
As for Maarek or Ten Numb, both of which would benefit more from Marksmenship, which again, can work with Experimental interface should you need to.
Granted that this one is only a single point, but so is veteran Instincts which people seem to love these days due to the high PS bid.
The only benefit I can see here is that you have to have a focus token to use it and on the off chance that you don't use it on your attack, you can at least use it on defence if you haven't already.
I doubt we will see this card used out side of casual "I wonder if this works. . . " lists.
Keyan + Opportunist + E2 + Gunner + FCS
Works remarkably well.
I also note this is of limited use on Maarek Stele since with ATC he wants a target lock. So he can't focus to use Calculation. He would be much better off with PtL for Focus + TL.
Edited by Biliskniri think this will be pretty **** good on black squadron ties. with only two dice they are far more likely to end up with only one focus.
I like it on a Blaster Turret + Rec Spec and/or Moldy Crow build. You already have a ton of focuses lying around and I don't see where it says the card is limited to being used once per attack.
Especially on Palob (who's the cheapest EPT HWK option anyway).

Or, as has been stated, Ten Numb with Ion Cannon becomes a highly reliable (95%!) unblockable ionizer with this.
Or imagine you have one focus result and the defender has no shields. For 1 point, you can make them roll to avoid a crit instead of a hit. That's the strength of a 1 point EPT. If you had points and the slot left over after you built your list, why not use it?

Pilots
------
Black Squadron Pilot (15) x 3
TIE Fighter (14), Calculation (1)
Howlrunner (18)
Academy Pilot (12) x 3
Probably the best type of use I can come up with for it.
I like it but it still takes me back to power creep. Lists that auto crit will have an advantage and 4 attack dice is the new norm.
