It seems like there is a going to be a big increase in the number of options that will allow you to deal consistent crits that happen to coincide with the release of Autothrusters. Does anyone else think this might be FFG preemptively adding counters for Autothruster Interceptors? Most of the crit options aren't so good that they'd be the go to upgrade but if the meta shifted and was full of fragile crit susceptible ships those upgrades start to look appealing.
Calculation EPT
Targeting Computer and Calculation seems like an odd combo on a ship with only one action, why not just upgrade the RGP to Tetran or Turr?
k
This has a home on Keyan if you can find another way to accurately stress yourself.
Oh man, here goes
Keyan Farlander 29
Calculating 1
Experimental interface 3
Lando crew/e2 4
That's a 37 point Farlander that can be target locked, focused, evaded, and stressed every turn.
E2 and EI are both mods so this can't work.
But I commend you on your efforts to try and make Keyan more viable. I for one wish he was.
keyan isnt viable? i just finished top 4 at a store championship with him and some rookie x wings, no less.
I made top 8 at the last store champs I went to with a Keyan list. I'm not saying he's not viable at all, I'm just saying that he's not as viable as I wish he was. This comes as more of a frustration of how badly he does against phantoms.
The thing with the one point EPTs and the one point upgrades in general isn't that they're too expensive or not effective for the 1 point you spend, it's the opportunity cost of the slot they take up. Same problem with adrenaline rush. Adrenaline rush, or 2 more points for PtL or Predator?
I would love to throw adrenaline rush on a swarm, but by the time I pay for generics that can take an ept I'm spending an extra 2 - 3 points to be able to spend a further one point on a measly 1 point ept and it's just not worth it. So the one point upgrades aren't feasible on generics either.

Not an unlikely possibility...
This is a great counter for low shield, high hull ships that are gaining popularity right now. This EPT is the Decimator's worst nightmare!

I think he forgot the "Blaster Turret"
Wow.....I think this is really cool. Personally, I think this could help shift the meta away from the big ships. This could also work against Fat Han, as long as it's not the first shot fired. As long as you have enough other people firing.
It can make HLC's actually crit? What about the generic Heavy Scyk with HLC and this? Have it sit on the flanks and fire in. If it needs the Focus to create more hits, it does, but for a single point, it can turn that one into a crit. That's not bad.
I often find myself with a few points when making lists and this could really flesh out a few. I think it's a good card for anyone. Great for some, but good on others.
It also works with Vader and ATC. I mean, you will probably always Focus and you will get 2 crits that turn. Predator can re-roll a blank, but it's also more points. If you are trying to save the points for things, then this can be a good alternative.
Kath will love it. Go head and give her a Mangler Cannon, too. If she is dishing out 2 crits in a round, and one is evaded, you can still cause your crit and give the stress, too.
There are a lot of little things I could make this work with. "My Name is Jonus" has Jonus w/ an EPT, but nothing really to spend it on. I could give him Calc. I can use it with his Homing Missile or with his regular shots.
Edited by heychadwickSo the one point upgrades aren't feasible on generics either.
Depends on the generic and how many points you have for other things.
A Black Squadron w/Cacl is 15 points, 4 of them are 60, you can't get another ship in for that same amount of points. Or Green Squadron Pilots w/Test Pilot, you might find that 2 1 point EPT's is better than 1 2 point EPT.
Alozen with this and ATC is 27pts, and grants you better action economy due to his ability. Stele of course like it just as much, but is 2pts more expensive.
Rebels might like something along the lines of:

Umm... 5 Academies is 60 points...
Umm... 5 Academies is 60 points...
stupid basic math...
Ok, so you could fit another ship in there at 60 points. 4 black squadron with it may still be worth the extra tie, but that's debateable.
Guri can use this pretty well, too. If within Range 1 of an enemy, you get a free Focus.

This. I keep thinking about this card and possible uses, but every time is end up with "but I'd rather have this other EPT".
I just realized how well this pairs with Proton Torpedoes.
Basic proton torps let you change 1 eyeball to a crit. Calculating lets you do the same thing. Which means, yes, you have 2 other dice to worry about, but if you need to flip more than two eyeballs, you can spend the focus as normal.

That, and "Horton Salm doesn't have an EOT slot unless he gives up his mech slot". ![]()
Actually, I think it works better with Concussion Missiles. If you have Calc, you can turn one blank into a hit and an eyeball into a crit! If you are like me, and roll bad, this turns your ordnance worth it.
but every time is end up with "but I'd rather have this other EPT".
I think it depends... You have to compare it to other 1 point EPT's to a point. There's the fact that it takes a EPT slot, so Calc vs Predator or PtL... it's pretty easy to see what's better.
But I'd say that Calc is clearly better than most other 1 point EPT's on a ship PS6 or lower. In those cases VI is seldom going to be useful.
Adrenaline rush is meh, Draw their Fire or Determination might be better, but that's going to depend on the rest of the build, and if you want a Defensive power vs Offensive.
Then Deadeye is only useful if you're packing ord.
So on a Green Squadron Pilot for example Calc may be better then Predator or some other 3 EPT, especially if it's the difference between getting Jake or another Green. Or between putting Auto Thrusters on or not.
For 99 points you can do the following.
3x Green Squadron Pilot w/Test Pilot, Refit, PtL, Calc, and AT.
Jake Farrell w/Test Pilot, Refit, PtL, Outmaneuver, and AT.
There aren't really any other 1 EPT that would work better for that list.
Edited by VanorDMA decent EPT for Black Ties when big ships are popular ... exceptionally fantastic in epic.
Just think about what a squad of 8 of these Black Tie Math Nerds could do to a CR-90 once it's shields have been stripped off.

Nah, not really no. Calculation will reliably guarantee a hit.

I think this is a real solid choice, well played FFG. There needs to be more options in the 1-2 EPT range, and Calculation is a great step that way. Lone Wolf was the real star of Wave V (and Stay on Target the hardy underdog), I can't wait to see what comes out next!
Just thinking, aside from all the great unique pilots that have been mentioned, this is a good replacement for Vet Instincts as the go-to 1 point EPT for generic pilots. Green Squadron, the Tansarii Veteran, and the Mando Merc can all take this with good returns I think, instead of something more expensive that may not work as often. Predator is the baseline choice for those ships since it doesn't have a real downside, and I can't wait to try Outmaneuver on the Mando Merc, but I think Calculation is a great way to ramp your offense at almost no cost. Especially since it isn't a mandatory effect!

It won't. I don't think he's realizing that the <Kaboom> is not uncancellable. It's a regular <Kaboom>... it just used to be an <Eye>.
