Curious limitation occurs to me for lists that use the Imperial Raider 'thematically'

By xanderf, in X-Wing

I tend to think of the Gozanti as more like an escort carrier than a real carrier. Or, maybe I want to say like an Aegis destroyer with a helio pad. Basically: those 4 Ties are a nice bonus, but not the main reason it's there.

The Raider, though, seems built for the kinds of missions where you want to scare the hell out of your opponent, but don't want to commit much to it. Or, for a hit and fade on lightly defended rear areas. Whatever the Star Wars equivalent of a bauxite mining operation, an attack on that. Important, not front line, and probably defended with fighters instead of capships. And you can just blow it up, rather than garrisoning it.

Well one thing I think we need to bring back to this conversation is that we are not fighting Battles in X-Wing, they are just small squirmishs. I honestly don't really consider a Corvette a Capital Ship in the true sense. So we wouldn't see a Glatiator Carrier class ship, that would be the size of the table, carrying a number of squad Tie Fighters.

We are fighting in the Backwoods of the Outer Rim where the local sector would only have two to three Star Destroyers to watch over it. So they would rely on smaller ships to do the patrols on any given day. Most of the Empire's planets will have some form of military presence in the form of a large base to small outposts where they all would have a small contingent of Ties for protection.

And when you think of it the Empire has I believe it was mentioned somewhere about several hundred thousand Star Destroyers to protect the Empire that is made up of millions of planets! Many of those planets are undeveloped or have just a small colony on it but those would be the ones with Rebel presence.

No way the Empire is going to send Star Destroyers to deal with a small Rebel issue. There are just not enough Capital Ships to do it.

So they would send smaller ships like the Gozanti to deal with and investigate the minor issues. That and spies.

I think this is dead-on. It's a frigate with a helipad. The helicopters can carry torpedoes or anti-ship missiles or transfer personnel. The Gozanti's TIEs can do patrols, customs surveys, and raids against soft targets. For a lot of missions, just having an armed ship is 95% of what you need. The Gozanti brings 4 of them. I would imagine that the TIEs don't stay on the Gozanti very long, they are only there for hyperspace transfer. The actual service crews are on the Star Destroyer or base where the TIEs are based. The Raider probably does a similar thing, but better, allowing it to go after someone tougher targets.

Exactly, ad hoc racks. Hell the Carrack Cruiser did that. Remember, those TIE's are famously low maintenance, so between use they don't need a dedicated hanger for small missions, I imagine that they are cycled out for repairs when the corvette reports to a larger base or carrier.
