Etiquette for Advanced Sensors - no peeking?

By PaulTiberius, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Marching through the Activation Phase, I reach my pilot that happens have have Advanced Sensors. I recall that I gave the pilot a red maneuver, but I don't quite recall which.

Since Advanced Sensors activates "Immediately before you reveal your maneuver..." is it proper etiquette to look at my dial again to refresh my memory (without revealing it to my opponent), before deciding I definitely want to activate Advanced Sensors?

(Or, for that matter, I could have selected a non-red maneuver, but I don't recall whether the chosen maneuver would benefit from a pre-maneuver barrel roll or a post-maneuver barrel roll.)

I guess this question of dial etiquette could even apply to a situation where I have two ships of equal pilot skill, but I want to refresh myself on what I dialed in before deciding which ship activates first.

How would such behavior be looked upon in a tournament setting?

We asked FFG about this in regards to decloaking moves back when the phantom came out. The "official" rule is apparently that you can look at your dial, but you have to inform your opponent first that you are just checking it and not "revealing" it.

As far as I've ever played in tournaments, you can look at your dials whenever you please, just not change them obviously. I would appreciate a quick heads-up that you're doing so before you reach out and grab a dial off the table, but yes you can absolutely look at your maneuver dial at any time.

I actually won a tourney game once because my opponent forgot his maneuver and AS Boosted the wrong way; his maneuver caused him to overlap the edge of the board by a millimeter or so. If you've already performed the action, I'm going to hold you to it, but by all means don't deny yourself information when you don't have to.

Edit: aaaand ninja post. Thanks for the FFG reference though, Forgottenlore! I wasn't sure if notifying your opponent was an actual aspect of the rules.
