Species for F&D EoE AoR

By Kilcannon, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Is there anyway to get species statistics without buying every supplement? If a species is the only part of a supplement that my players want I don't think I should have to buy another book? That or sell a pdf of just species? Also only want official species by FFG.

Quoting my post in another thread on this subject:

FFG does re-use species in various other books, but some species have only appeared in one book so far.

The license that FFG has for the game from Lucasfilm/Disney is very, very specific, and they’re not allowed to sell any PDFs or other electronic forms of game materials. They can make some content publicly available in electronic form at no charge, which they’ve already done with some material. But none of that duplicates anything that they have put into print and sold.

So, if you want official FFG species, there’s only one way to do that — use the FFG books. For FFG to do anything else would cause them to be nuked into oblivion by The Mouse That Roars.

honestly, I think they are with it. i was on the fence about buying the supplements, after the horrors that was the dnd ones, but I consider them some of my best buys ever. new specializations that I never thought I would use, in every campaign since at least one of my players have. new gear. signature abilities. species. I can't say enough how wrong I was by not wanting to buy them. the art alone is worth the price, imho. there is something for everyone. including adventures for the GM. new obligations. I have bought every one, that includes aor, a game I haven't played yet, and considering I thought I was going to regret getting one. im gushing. sorry. I'll stop before I gush anymore.

but every supplement sees use every game since I've gotten them.

I agree with miishelle. But you could always saunter on over to your Friendly Local Gaming Store and browse their collection of FFG books. Maybe invite the player who wants to play whatever species it is and make the character there. But, again, it's unlikely you'll regret buying the book.

This is my fourth system of Star Wars and have purchased all of the systems time and again. Just want species lol. Guess will be making a lot of near humans with adjustments from Saga, d20,d6 conversions then.

There are a number of us who also have a lot of the old books.

Speaking only for myself, I believe that you will find that the books from FFG are of equal or superior quality in comparison to any of the older systems.

Of course, you don’t have to buy any of the books if you don’t want to, but I feel that the overall system is of the highest quality, and I believe that you are likely to be happy with just about any of the FFG books that you might buy.

I’ll also add that you don’t have to be the only one to buy them in your game — others in your game could also help contribute to the stack of books in the group.

I understand. this was my fourth too. I was very wary of getting it, after being burned on 4e and besm 3e, I was about ready to give up on new games. im glad I got this one

I love the system just don't want any supplement just to get species. They don't serve any purpose for my Force & Destiny Game except for 3 species in each book. I would spend $40 for a dedicated species book, but the other info and extra specializations serve no purpose

fair enough.

You can find just the species stats in OggDude's character generator. He'll usually update for each supplement a few days after it's released.

why am I scared of the responses this will get

If we do see a species book it will be far down the line compiling the species from the line.

Pretty much.

The devs have pretty much said during their Order 66 appearances that they've planned well in advance which species are going into what sourcebook, mostly so as to avoid clustering all the "cool" species into a few books. Like WotC with Saga Edition, FFG is aware that one of the main things that sells sourcebooks is new species (along with new gear and new ships).

But yeah, once they get to a point where the feel the line is winding down, then we can probably expect to see compilation books, such as a complete species guide or having the career/spec combos (core and splat book) from each product line (EotE, AoR, FaD) packed into a single book.

If so, Donovan? That will be fantastic for those of us who are only planning on buying into one of the three core games.

(Yeah, I'm only interested in the "Han and Chewie" game.)

Honestly, on top of a complete species guide, I would like to see a nicely laid-out book for all of the ships. Nothing fancy. But maybe front, dorsal, and side views of each ship next to some stats? Gad, that would be great...

Since the days of WEG, I've been in the camp of people who thought that a party consisting of all of the Mos Eisley cantina was a bit weird. I felt that a good campaign needed a healthy dose of humans. That's why I usually wound up playing the only one.

The Star Wars films have "parties" consisting of - more or less - one alien, the rest of them were humans. You're severely restricting your storytelling options if you have too many aliens, especially if they are the beautifully weird aliens the Star Wars universe is full of.

That being said, storytelling options like Romance are not for everybody. Playing the alien is a surefire way you never have to cross that bridge ever. That's an advantage right there.

Sorry for digressing, OP, carry on.

Well, said point will probably be several years in the future, so I wouldn't get my hopes for such a book showing up anytime soon. After all, this summer they're releasing the one game book (Force and Destiny) that a lot of people have been waiting for since FFG announced they were doing a Star Wars RPG, and they've still got a lot of material to cover for AoR as well, at least in terms of career-themed sourcebooks.

Heck, they have not even finished EotE and it's been out for 18 months. Realistically EotE has probably got another year of regular releases, AoR won't be done for another 2 years and FnD will take at least 3 for the main books to be done, therefore we can expect to be buying Christmas presents still at the end of 2018.

The "recipe" that FFG uses for alien races isn't that complicated. If you don't want to buy their books, you shouldn't have too much difficulty coming up with some home-brew rules for species using Wookiepedia.

Or use the wonderful fan-produced compilations available online, like The Unofficial Species Menagerie (or *cough cough* that link in my sig). That said, I understand the desire to get the "real version" of the Pantorans or the Defels or whatever.
