Filling the Donut - Timbit - PS 10 DASH?!

By patkopp, in X-Wing

I've had some success with the following squad:

Tycho "Timbit" Celchu (30)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Experimental Interface (3)

Squad Leader (2)

Dash Rendar (58)

Push the Limit (3)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Kyle Katarn (3)

Outrider (5)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

The idea is 58 Dash does his thing, clears stress, gets a focus and takes a target lock for his action. PS 9s move, get into range 1 of him, getting in his donut hole. Timbit moves at PS 10, boosts if necessary to get into range 1-2 of Dash, uses experimental interface to pass an action to Dash, Dash boosts and pushes the limit to barrel roll out of range 1 one.

In this way, Tycho fills the donut hole... which we call Timbits in Canada eh?

Timbit can be used in other squads to give mobility at PS 10. He's somewhat expensive at 30 points, but he can easily keep up to Dash.

I'm 3-2 with this list. I lost to the list that won our store championship (Cheerios and Soontir) who went 7-0 at the event, and had a modified loss due to time (60 minute round, Fat Han had 1 hit left). I'm also confident that in the hands of a better player it could have done better.

That's an extremely creative use of squad leader. . .

My buddy kept pushing for this idea and every time I would just kill tycho easily then my ps 8 and 9's deal with dash.

Much of the strategy is keep Timbit alive and in range.

He doesn't need to be used with 58 Dash, but it work well. I also see him giving B's a late maneuver to line up a shot, or get a range 1-2 ion turret in range, or pair with a squad of Prototypes with Proton Rockets and he can help give them the range 1 shot.

The whole point is that it can help give PS 10 maneuverability to even no-name rebel ships.

This is very clever, but without any actions for defense and being in a very predictable place every turn, Tycho should be pretty easy to kill if the opponent just ignores Dash and focuses on him, and then Dash is back to being completely countered by PS8+ repositioning.

I'm sure you can definitely surprise people with this list when they ignore Tycho and don't realize that Dash gets to arc dodge them at PS10 until it's too late, but once people figure out what you're doing, they will just kill Tycho early and knock the legs out from under Dash, so Dash is going to have to be able to kill whatever PS8+ ships the opponent has before Tycho dies. I think this is a gimmick list (a list that only works when the opponent doesn't know what it's doing, but can easily change their strategy to counter it), but a very clever one.
