Imperial Raider: PICS!!!!!

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

That ship looks great.

I don't plan on buying any huge ships do to a major increase in game time,

I am bummed its the only way to play the Tie advanced now, $99.95 is far too much for the Tie advanced and the cards needed to play it now.

but it is soooo sweet.

Love the wing/panels, even more so the ventral ones.

Looks awesome can't wait to get that sucker ported over to Armada

Raider swarm yes please :)

Then keep an eye out on the modding community and see if you can get their surplus.

Hey thats a great idea, thanks

People can knock on the interceptor wings, but I feel like I don't mind them, even if I see where they are going. They've grown on me as part of being characteristic of the ship. They're more angular solar panels and less "we ripped these from TIE Interceptors". It's enough of a departure.

I can approve of the Raider as an imperial counterpart to the CR90. Hopefully we can see more of these out in the canon universe as time goes on, in the very least so that the Assassin isn't the only small imperial ship of this size.

By the way, who was expecting FFG to pull something new out of their hat with regard to Imperial huge ships, eh?

I think they may have designed the raider based on Tarkin's corvette from the Tarkin book. In the book they don't come right out and say its called a raider class corvette but the description in the book fits this model.

They didn't. The novel says it was based on the design of the Separatist "Stealth Ship", which doesn't look like the Imperial Raider:

NOBODY!

No, I called it. I'd made a few posts to that effect before it was announced.

That's a shame, because the Raider looks a LOT more intimidating than that thing.

Where from?!

Gifts for geeks is taking pre-orders, gave my friend some old skaven models to save him some money and to repay me he said he's getting me the raider which is far more than I expected.

God that thing's cool! Given the upgrade cards that come in that pack they had their work cut out to make the ship itself not feel overshadowed, and they managed it!

This should be (more or less) the size of the Raider by measuring the pictures:

I never noticed the tiny forward-facing guns all along the top. That's a nice touch. I wonder where the side arcs are meant to come from.

They turn perhaps?

It looks like the turrets can hide in the hull and pop up to shoot and probably swivel to.

Yeah, they have to swivel. It's going to be tricky - I usually cut off my ships turrets and glue them back on at different angles, I'm wondering how possible that will be with these...

Double-peg, one in the base of the gun assembly, one on the armor plate?

When you say the armour plate do you mean, do you mean the armour on the hull that it protrudes from, or the armor on the gun so the gun can swivel while the armour section above it continues to point forward? The latter would look cool, but how would it aim up and down?

What I meant was more that the plate attached to the gun would be detachable, so you could BOTH have the plate stay static AND be able to remove the gun bit and peg the plate flush into the fuselage.

As for elevation, that's trickier unless there's a male|hinge|female connector that the guns are built into. Did the Tantive have it at all?

Thanks for this, Mel. Very helpful.

Inb4 I want 12 of these for a full squadron of interceptor star destroyers
