Imperial Raider: PICS!!!!!

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

Second pic ........ Is that a large rusty brown ship in the background? Behind the S&V Y and Zs . A Gozanti?

That's the Imperial Assault board in the next display case. I took those pictures. There is nothing unannounced in the cases.

So on a scale of 1, how much were you tempted to perform a hit and fade? :P.

Not nearly as much then, so much as later when they took it out of the case for me to take better pictures of.

Rogue three!

Copy Rogue leader!

We need to take down that raider and fast! Check your deflector shields Double front. You don't wanna get caught in the engine...

Coming round it Rogue leader! *hiss crackle static*

Aboard the raider..

Maniacal laughter from the single throne seat "Gooooood."

As the dark figure claps, several officers breath easier.

Standing at the view port the Admiral smirks and says "Blind spot in deed..."

I can has?

Awesome pics, Hexis! Thank you!

heh, Wade was less intense with shallow DoF than I tend to be. I was busy playing so I tossed him my camera and asked him to grab pics. There is only so much you can do with a full frame sensor and no lighting.

I'm going to have to blue up that engine, it's a little dead looking

The engine size helps maintain a sense of scale. This way it doesn't look simply like a shrunken Star Destroyer. I expect it to be even more obvious once it's on the table with other ships. I'm grateful for that.

There was a similar effect with the Vigil's sensor dish and engines.

But you can only ever run one?

One to repaint and mod, For cards. One for display. I certainly won't get the second until I find it on a really good sale.

Wow, I'm actually not liking it. The view from the back just reinforces that it isn't really pure shaped but more like a cone. The engine is way too much and the interceptor wings look even worse than they do in the advertising shots.

Oh well. Still going to buy 2 of them.

But you can only ever run one?

Sez who?!

When the initial announcement came out, I disliked the solar panels / cooling fins, but Hexis' close-ups show them to be highly detailed (should not have expected anything less), and they are growing on me. These through-the-glass photos also really worried me about how disproportionate the exhaust shaft would be, but again, the close-ups show it's symmetrical (yay, OCD), with two smaller ports on either side.

If I could, I would definitely modify it - more gun batteries for one thing, or maybe a couple missile silos. At least I can find the how-to thread on getting some colour in that exhaust!

At least painting it's engine will be a world easier than the five+ hours the CR-90 is taking. Should be a total thirty minute gig tops.

Where was the photos taken?

Where was the photos taken?

FFG Game center most likely, as that is where Hexis played in the store championship yesterday.

I saw those pics and started the timer. When it dings in four hours, I'll be going to the doctor. Flipping glorious.

I love the model head to toe. Main engine might be a little nuts but whatever. I actually was liking it from the get go but the initial product pics made me want to say like 7/10 like the design. Now I'm definitely up to a 9/10 I love the design.

I see what you did there ;)

Dat aft. I'm going to need a new box or my Epic stuff...

Well, with the Corvette taking up 3/5 Epic points, one can imagine this will either be 3-4...

Now, if you were to, perhaps, play a much larger game than our current Epic standards....

Don't box up the shinies! Display them proudly!

Time to get busy on that 5x7' table!

:D

holy s..., love it.

planing on buying only one of those and hope it will stay like that :D

That thing looks even nicer than I thought now I see the whole engine assembly and the bottom wing more clearly.

And I think those wings, while looking similar to tie fighters' wings, don't necessarily serve the same solar panel purpose. Probably for heat dissipation. Either way, it's an entirely new ship that was never around before by the old canon or the new, so we can only speculate. Still think they look badass though.

People can knock on the interceptor wings, but I feel like I don't mind them, even if I see where they are going. They've grown on me as part of being characteristic of the ship. They're more angular solar panels and less "we ripped these from TIE Interceptors". It's enough of a departure.

I can approve of the Raider as an imperial counterpart to the CR90. Hopefully we can see more of these out in the canon universe as time goes on, in the very least so that the Assassin isn't the only small imperial ship of this size.

By the way, who was expecting FFG to pull something new out of their hat with regard to Imperial huge ships, eh?
