So far I've had campaigns either based on or influenced by the Maltese Falcon, Seven Samurai, Casa Blanca, Resident Evil, and Dead Space and I'm planning ones based on Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse How and Neon Genesis Evangelion. What have my fellow GM's done with their chronicles?
Ideas and Inspirations for campaign chronicles
Well, from a previous post, I'm incorporating the Fisher King, and less specifically most of the old Arthurian legend cycle (plus a little Irish and Viking myth for good measure) into a major campaign. It's one of those "the world (might) never be the same again" campaigns, which I'm usually not a big fan of. However, I might have a way to fit the game results into canon without too much shoehorning (maybe some massaging of dates, but that's not a huge deal) while still really getting deep into the Imperium and the Emperor.
I'll probably post my design document and campaign outline once it's worked out.
I normaly do not lean that heavy on novells/movies.
Right at the moment, [Group1] is going through a mini-campaign triggered by the events of "Edge of Darkness" (they are after the -L- and do not know right now), using "Gateway17" (see the HP "Darkreign" for it) and mixing it up with my own elements and ideas.
[Group2] is starting out on Dusk. They will have to deal with a nurgleth daemon who is gathering followers and spreading plague to once again claim territory on Dusk. After they swarted this attempt, a pre-insertet link (a minor warlord whom somehow got hands on pretty modern weaponary) turns to have connections to the BeastHouse (forbidden beasts for weapons) which will be used to make the group leave Dusk and start somehwere else.
I only made a one shot adventures based on Carpenters "Ghosts of Mars" so far.
Ghosts of Mars: The Acolyts were send to a isolated Mining Colonie to investigate the disappearance of a Tech-Priest suspected to work with Xenotech. The Techpriest vanished with his team, some time before the Acolyts arrived at the scene, after inspecting some pre-imperial tunnles. Meanwhile the Authorities lost contact to some of their Outposts. Long Story short: the Techpriest activated an ancient defense device turning him and his team into some kind of "zombies" infecting outpost after outpost to liberate the planet from imperial invaders.
I don't tend to base mine on books/films but steal ideas heavily from various sources -
They started on a planet that underwent a rebellion (daemon influenced) which they got caught up in, unwittingly unleashed the daemon from its "tomb" and then had to put it down - it called for "backup" in the form of a chaos ship which crash landed in the city, so the PCs had to fight their way through the ship and somehow dealt with it (there was a fair bit of sacrifice involved). The Imperial Guard arrived and helped put down the rebellion (go Duskan Raiders!)
Following this, the remaining rebels were imprisoned and press-ganged into the Imperial Guard, and due to be shipped to Scintilla for re-equipping. The players infiltrated the rebels and pretended to be guardsmen during the journey to be certain no "taint" remained.
Enroute there was the usual mysterious goings on, and the ship navigator was assasinated. A distress call was also heard for a nearby planet under attack by a surprise ork force. The players were caught up in the deployment and ended up dropping straight into the warzone with the Guard.
To bring a quick end to the ork threat, their inquisitor advises them they will be "cutting the head off the snake" by killing the warlord. In his throne room. Which happens to be a gargent currently lumbering towards the city. The plan is to drop onto its shoulders and breach their way through to disable the gargent, then all rendezvous at the head to defeat the warlord. However enroute, the Inquisitors dropship is shot down by some form of SAM, leaving the players on their own...
So far they are inside and working their way down to the engine room, cue much hilarity and close range ambushes, flamer attacks, burning Nobz and one gretchin bomb.
I'm planning on some kind of mexican wild west style setting...maybe a Treasure of the Sierra Madre style. Have the PCs follow a misguided fool who will lead them to some heretical artefact in the hills, so they can destroy it and kill him before he does anything stupid (like opening a daemon portal or something). Pretty vague idea at the mo. Backstabbing, bandit attacks, chases, tnt!
Just finished dead space...I NEED to steal some ideas from that!
I had plans for running a Resident Evil campaign but I sort of got stuck in writing it. The title for the campaign/scenario (hadn't decided how long it would stretch) would be "Nightcycle of the Living Dead". The plot was supposed to be about The Logicians conducting research on the Fydae strain virus, using a medicae corporation as a front. The brunt of the scenario was supposed to take place in Procyon hive which is a hive city of my own design, and for those of you who are somewhat scholared in latin and naturalbiology you'd would probably recognize the name "Procyon Iotor" which is the binomial name for "Raccoon" which of course alludes to the name "Raccoon city"
(yes, im quite fond of "hidden" allusions to the works i take inspiration from when designing campaigns and scenarios).
The plan was for the fydae strain to be "accidentaly" released in Procyon hive's air filter system, infecting most of the population whilst the PC's were conducting their investigations regarding missing Inquisitorial agents and traces hinting at the heretical activities by the Logicians. At the same time the more important members of the Logicians realize during the undead outbreak that Inquisitorial Acolytes are on to them, so they send out the fruit of their heretical research, a bioconstructed gholam with the codename "Nemesis" to kill the acolytes. (even more:
)
But unfortunately i got stuck in mid writing and many problems arose so I abandoned it.
Recently however I ran an introduction scenario for a cell of Ordo Xenos acolytes that was heavily inspired from the movie Predator, but instead of it being situated in south america, it was situated in the equatorial jungles of the war world Kulth, and instead of traveling behind enemy lines of south american rebels, the acolytes had to travel behind enemy lines of the rampaging Orks. And instead of them having to dodge and evade a Predator from the movie, the had to... escape, evade and fight a Tyranid Lictor. But still it all worked out in the end and all of the players liked the adventure and it left an important loose end for them to follow up on in a campaign im designing for them.

I'd personally love to run a scenario like that. It sounds like so much fun.
