Does corvette start with focus?

By cjnj193, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey so did an epic game and the guy with a ya tantive said that it starts with full energy... Is that true?

Depends on what you're playing. By the base rules, no. But under the Epic Tournament Rules (and a lot of players use the tournament rules as structure even for casual games) Huge ships start with full energy.

Wow! That's quite a difference in power there. It's one thing if the Corvette needs to spend time getting power for all of those potential weapon systems but if it starts with them all loaded that would cause it to played completely differently.

That's why they changed it in the Epic Tournament rules. It was practically unplayable in the original incarnation.

And just curious, how much energy is full? I can never find any info on them

Epic tournament rules:

Players assign Energy tokens to each of their Huge ships up to its energy limit.

That refers to the energy limit of the ship. It does not mention upgrade cards.

FAQ:

The maximum number of energy tokens that a card can have at any time is its energy limit. A ship's energy limit can be increased with certain upgrade cards.

The ship card starts with full energy. Upgrade cards like weapons start empty.

Hmm okay thanks. Next time we play I will be sure to remember that

Now that makes some sense without blowing things up too badly. Starting at 5 energy is reasonable while starting with EVERYTHING charged would be nuts. Before I was looking at how much gas I'd need in the thing to get it running fast enough to work.

If you are playing the campaign missions, heads up and read the set up procedures. There are a few missions where you start with limited or no energy deliberately.

A side question that may be elsewhere but:

The quad lasers for the corvette. Can you charge them with 1 energy and NOT use the reroll if you miss or do yhou HAVE to charge them with two energy?

If you do not use the second energy, is it wasted or does it carry over? Same for the other weapons that require energy. If they are not fired, is it wasted?

You can.

Even with two energy tokens on the card you are allowed to spend one energy to attack, miss, not attack again and keep one energy token.

Energy on cards remains until something tells you to remove it. So far there are two ways to remove energy from upgrade cards:

a) Use the energy as specified on the card.

b) Some face-up damage cards tell you to discard energy.

In other words: Energy remains where it is until you use it. You can charge a weapon during one game round and use it several game rounds later.

Thanks!

i posted this over in the rules section but it seems relevant here as well.

corevette startes with 5 energy tokens at the beginning of the first turn. These are on the ship card (have not been allocated)

Let suppose that upon activation, it gains 3 more. It gains energy before it allocates, so is this wasted? or do I now have 8 energy token to use / allocate?

The energy limit rules say that anytime you have more enrgy than your limit, immediately discard any excess. So is that 3 energy I gained in the first round wasted? or not?

So is that 3 energy I gained in the first round wasted?

Yes, because you gain that energy before you can allocate the energy you already have.

So you might as well go full steam ahead on round 1, rather than hanging in the back.

This was the game-play change that the rules-change created; the actual problem that they fixed.

thanks, that is as I thought
