Anti-phantom/turret/all around list?

By Jaden Ckast, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So with all these turrets and phantoms floating around the meta it's been hard trying to develop a list that can counter both a turret and hyper mobile ships like phantoms. You either dump all your points into a fat Han/dash build or all your points trying to make your high ps skill phantom harder to hit if/when it does get shot at. What happens is you will be successful at taking down that one lost your hard countering but flail with others. I like a more generalized list and one with more versatility and so I propose this.

Nera Dantels (26)

Flachette Torps (2) x2

Munitions fail safe (1)

Gold squad pilot (18)

Ion cannon turret (5)

Green squad pilot (19)

Awing test pilot (0)

Lone wolf (2)

Intimidation (2)

Chardaan refit (-2)

Blue squadron pilot (22)

Total: 97 pts

So basically if I'm facing a high agility list the strategy here is to send the awing to block high agility targets if possible while nera has her stress giving torpedo turret to dish stress out and hopefully with munitions fail safe gets to keep them a awhile. Once a target gets stress the ywing hopefully follows up with an ion shot to keep that stress on. All the while the other bwing is providing support for nera.

Now if I'm facing high hp turreted lists then my plan stays similar. Have the awing block the big turreted ships and reduce their agility to 0 or 1. Then use nera and the bwing to focus fire while the ywing ionizes any support ships. Nera uses her torpedo turret when she can't get a shot of in front or a support ship comes from behind.

Now the only predicament I'm in is I have 3 points left to spend. What do you think would be the best way to use these 3 points?

Droid on ywing or sensors on bwings?

I was think maybe the droid that gives shields back for a focus or the other one that gives a boost and target lock to help make sure targets get ionized.

So the questions are

What do you think of the list?

What to spend 3pts on?

R2 on the Y. Deadeye on Nera. 1 point initiative bid.

R2 on the Y. Deadeye on Nera. 1 point initiative bid.

It's funny you said that because I was actually thinking of using deadeye and r2. Maybe not the same idea for deadeye tho. My thoughts on deadeye were if I'm only trying to stress a target and not lose my torpedoes I would use a focus token to fire them and if they come up as hits spend a target lock to re roll the hits to force focus or blanks that way the target has a higher chance of evading allowing me to deal stress but not lose my torpedo. Is that along the same lines or no?

Well, you need to do damage to win, so rerolling just to miss seems counterproductive. However, I think there are times where that would be the right choice. I think Deadeye is more important for just having all options in the combat phase. I mean, at PS 5 she may not catch a phantom with TL, but she could shoot at anybody with a Focus token.

Yes the missing on purpose is situational, basically used to get the first stress on and then let the ywing ionize and keep that stress on. I do like the deadeye tho, I must be honest it will be the first time I have used that card haha. Never found a spot for it, but nera seems perfect.

If you're thinking of using the A-Wing to block I'd consider this slight change:

Nera Dantels (26)
Flachette Torps (2) x2
Munitions fail safe (1)

Gold squad pilot (18)
Ion cannon turret (5)

Arvel Crynyd (23)
Awing test pilot (0)
Intimidation (2)
Chardaan refit (-2)

Blue squadron pilot (22)

Total: 99 pts

Arvel gives you a slightly higher PS A-Wing as well as the ability to block, reduce agility and shoot at the ship you're blocking.

R3A2 on the Y-Wing and bump Intimidation up to outmaneuver on the A-wing.

The first will give you more stress sources. The latter is just a brilliant upgrade on flanker A-wings.
