Decimator suggestions need for newish player

I really need help, I am not as good at building as the rest of you, I don't have the cards found in the falcon or shuttle.

Any decimator list suggestions for a player who wont have to play against an empire build or a falcon?

we only play opposing factions.

A list being used often in store championships seems to be a Decimator paired with a Phantom.

If you're newer, I'd keep it somewhat simple and not going too overboard on upgrades.

1) Good all purpose vanilla build:

Patrol Leader w/Rebel Captive and Gunner

4 Obsidians (or) 3 Academies and Backstabber

2) A more defensive build:

Captain Kenkirk w/Ysanne Isard and Determination

3 Academies and Night Beast

3) The more expensive build

Admiral Chiraneau w/Marksmanship (or Predator), Gunner and Ysanne Isard

2 Obsidians and Backstabber

These aren't current top tier competitive builds, but they will allow you to focus on the decimator's abilities and strengths and synergies between the pilots and cards.

Oicunn, jade, yssard, determination. Then just point and ram.

Here is a couple decimator build I've done well with

Oicunn

Dauntless

Rebel captive

Mara jade

2 scimitar bombers

Both w/ proximity mines

Academy pilot

I have probably over 12 wins and 1 lose with this build.

Another I've done well with. Gone probably 4 or 5 wins no loses yet

Rear admiral chireaneau

Predator

Engine upgrade

Ysanne

Rebel captive

Echo

Veteran instincts

Advanced cloak

Fire control systems

Recon specialist

This is one I've yet to use but just looks like fun

A whole lot of stress

I'm newer as well. So determination: since it says discard immediately; does that negate the damage as well?

Yes you discard the crit and no dmg is done

Good cards to use:

Isard: because an evade token never hurts.

Rebel captive: makes the other guy more cautious about whats shooting the decimator.

Gunner: its alot of points so ensuring your attacks hit can come in handy.

and as already said determination can help quite a bit.

I highly suggest predator and Engine upgrade on chireaneau

Engine upgrade dodging firing arcs adds survivability on a ship with 0 agility

Even if you dodge only one or two ships that's a lot less dmg to take.

Plus large ships can really get around

Predator is great with chireanea. With his ability and predator you can have a mini focus and target lock.

Leaving actions to boost.

Ysanne again is nice. Like said above. Free evade is good

Especially if your dodging arcs. Makes you harder to kill

Rebel captive is a good deterrent. Phantoms, ptl dash and other ships do not like getting stressed

Determination it is good. It has prevented a couple dmg a game for me, then plenty of others never got any use from it.

Can't complain for one pt.

Best used on Captian kirk imo.

Veteran instincts good on rear admiral chireaneau for phantom hunters and shoot before other high ps ships. Fel and etc.

Gunner though I have done well without it, I think once wave 6 is released it'll become almost a necessity.

Gunner with veteran instincts for example on rear admiral chireaneauis a good high ps with high agility killer

Mara jade if you want to be aggressive.

Goes well with Oicunn seeing as his ability requires close range.

Dauntless same thing good with oicunn since it involves ramming

Refer to my first post in this thread. Oicunn with the bombers did extremely well for me.

I credit Major Juggler with the Ysanne Issard + Push the limit combo. How it works is in the combat phase when you take the free Evade Actions from Issard, you then get to PTL to then boost out of arc. This is AMAZINGLY powerful! The ability to arc dodge in the combat phase is just insane! I am a huge fan!

I suggested EU. I've got Weapons Engineer on a different Decimator build. It's a handy card.

There is also a Nova Squadron Radio podcast that just came out today. It's primarily on Wave 3 discussion. They go back and revisit the B-wing and HWK-290. The first part of their show discusses what they are flying now and that's where I'm still at. I like Nova Squadron Radio, but I find they are quick to fall prey to the "meta" and dismiss things out of hand. They just trashed the Tie Bomber when I think there are uses for it. Still, a good show. Just keep an open mind about things.
