i'm not a big fan of force unleashed beeing canon in the old UE (legend), i see it more like an alternative UE... but i've to admit this could be a nice addition as a real rebel commander and ex-imperial officer (wich is exactly the case of Madin).
Commander
I'm kinda surprised Wedge isn't the commander in the Nebulon-B Expansion. According to Wookiepedia, he commanded the Yavaris when he transferred to fleet command.
Maybe he'll be the 2nd commander in the inevitable MC-80 Expansion since if I recall correctly he commanded some of them as well.
I honestly don't recall anything ever showing Wedge using a Mon Calamari ship as his flagship. The first flagship I recall him using was the Nebulon-B Yavaris , and he used the Super Star Destroyer Lusankya as his flagship for a long time. He used the modified Interdictor Star Destroyer Mon Mothma as a flagship during much of the Vong War, and while his flagship from his time as commander of the Corellian military was never shown I seriously doubt that it was a Mon Calamari cruiser of any model.
Then again I don't recall Garm bel Iblis ever using an Assault Frigate Mark II as his flagship so that might not matter.

At the very least he commanded a MC90 at one point.

I don't blame you if you don't remember it. It was from a pretty forgetable book.
Edited by admiralcrunchOh yeah that was the weird one that claimed that MC90 bridges were transparent wasn't it?
I posted this in the nebulon B commander thread also, but I am pretty certain the "8" cards mentioned in the article is a typo and is supposed to be 3 cards, which are shown in the picture. In which case we have seen them all in the article. The Assault Frigate MkII says it has 14 cards, and sure enough 14 are shown in the photo. FFG product shots normally show all the contents, just some cards are facedown as a surprise, but never not shown at all.

I believe so. It has been a long time since I read it, and I really have no desire to read it agan to refresh my memory.
not the best idea to use forgettable books as referances
I agree that Wedge should be in a fighter squadron if characters are limited to a single appearance. But, assuming they wern't, would it really be that difficult? Make a crew Wedge similar to Adar Tallon that improves starfighter coordination and a commander Wedge as well. All you have to say is that a named character can only appear once in a list. Now you have options but people can choose which dimension of the character they want to see. Plus it allows for names to appear more often if they are more flexible. Tycho is repped in the A-wing squadron but he also worked as a control officer for Rogue Squadron on capital ship support and later as Wedge's No. 2 as a bridge officer. Likwise Solo could be a commander along with a single MF ship pilot "squadron."
It's totally possible that may do multiple versions....they certainly have in X-Wing for many characters.
This is why squadrons should have named squadrons, not characters

I think that's actually why they went with named characters rather than Fighter Wing names.
Rogue Squadron without Wedge wouldn't really be Rogue Squadron. The 181st wouldn't be the best of the best without Baron Soontir Fel.
I actually think squadron names would have been cooler, but this way makes sense I guess.

This is true. I'd rather have Blue Squadron or whatever than a generic ship. But some names are so well associated with respective groups that fielding the squad would preclude a character card anywhere else, such as in crew or as a commander.Sti
ll I could see them just printing X-wing stat cards or whatever with slightly unique stats for squadrons someday. You don't need the new models, just a new card and maybe a id chit. Give 181st better Squints for example. Then if a player wants to field the squadron and character it is possible, just awkward. I don't see FFG actually doing it though since it would be awkward at times and they seem to be a fan of keeping things elegant at all costs.
I think they could have gone with "elite" squadrons, and then done an attachment "commander" for it, to add Elite pilots, almost like they do for Cap ships.
For example, Rogue Squadron, and then a Wedge Antilles, Rogue Leader card that can only be played if you have Rogue Squadron in play, that adds abilities to Rogue Squadron
If I had my guess - I'd say that Piett wouldn't show until they do an ISD at a minimum - with the SSD being his more likely appearance (if they do a Super that is). Remember, he wasn't in charge of anything until the debacle at Hoth when Ozzel was "reprimanded." He's never actually been in charge of anything except for the Executor , so I can't imagine he'd appear earlier than it's release. That said, Tarkin technically wasn't in charge of a modern Star Destroyer either and he showed up, so anything is possible.
I think we'll see Piett in the ISD pack. I'm still expecting there not to be an SSD....if there IS, he'll be in that instead.
Remember that we're not talking about ship captains (who would either fit into the crew slot, or are represented by their ship's title), but the person in charge of the fleet.

So we get Tarkin before Piett, I don't see the logic to the guessing.
In the EU Piett was in command of an Imperial Star Destroyer which became part of Death Squadron before impressing Vader enough that he was assigned as Ozzel's flag captain.

that one deserve a source (the name of the comic or book).
what would be funny is commander with negatives cost points... Like borsk feyla giving some cowardy mechanic (loose a ship = next moove done by the opponent)

I know it was mentioned in his article in the Essential Guide to Warfare and he appeared as an Imperial class Star Destroyer hero unit in the Empire at War PC game.

It's in a lot of places. He commanded the ISD Accuser for a good time, and in two separate stints. Here's the wiki page listing sources about him (as well as a few bits about his ISD captaincy). I dont unfortunately know exactly which source material the info came from....there's a lot .
Actually...has anyone even mentioned Palpatine as a Commander?
If he is fielded with Commander Jejerrod, the latter will re-double his efforts. Might work well with repairs.
Commander Jejerrod (Officer)
This ship may plan and reveal 2 commands each round. They cannot be the same command.

My musts for the Empire are Admiral Daala and Admiral Piett. I don't know where we would get Daala, but I'm with everyone who puts Piett on the Imperial class. I just really hope I can use Daala as my commander, not only through the officer upgrade slot - which I am maybe a little afraid of after seeing Ysanne Isard as just an upgrade card. I am also very much going to look forward to the commander version of Darth Vader.
I'm not sure I have many Rebel musts... I think I would want to see a Toryn Farr crew slot upgrade, and we are quite obviously going to get Admiral Ackbar with the inevitable Mon Cal. I love Wedge, so naturally I'd really like to see a commander version of him eventually as well.
