Question: What happens when coming out of a portal?

By Daniel1988, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

When you have travelled through a portal and come out during the movement phase, what then happens during your encounter phase?

Do you only get an exporer token or do you also have to draw an encountercard of the location the portal is on?

I can't find this specified anywhere in the rules.

I'm assuming that when you get out of a portal you return to the location that portal is on and encounter something there.

Much thanks.

Daniel,

hi and welcome to the forum :)

Gates replace locations, hence, as long as you are on a gate, no location encounters are possible (there are houserules for this, but for now let's stick at the rules).

If you are on a location with a gate during the Arkham Encounters phase, then there are only two possible cases:

a) you don't have the explorer marker; hence, you enter the gate, being sucked into the OW

b) you do have the explorer marker: you may attempt to seal / close a gate. The explorer marker stays with you as long as you stay on the location; if by any means you move from there, the explorer marker is discarded

(rules cover this under the section "Arkham Encounters", pag 8 and 9 of the rulebook, if you need a more detailed answer)

Thanks for the quick reply :)

My mistake I thaught that you would get the explorer marker in your encounters phase but after rereading

I see that you get it in the movement phase.

My friends and I are about to start another game so this is really helpfull.

Good it's settled then! If you have more questions, keep'em coming! And enjoy the game!
