Epic Crits....

By FNG tie pilot, in X-Wing

So I was playing a tourney today. My Whisper shot at an Outrider with 6 hit points left. After modifications and defense rolls I got 1 hit and 3 crits through with the crits being Stunned Pilot, Direct Hit, Direct Hit. My opponent and I were both surprised by the results. I don't think either one of us expected Dash to explode so suddenly.

Anyone else had any crazy chains of direct hits, or other crits?

Last turn of a tight game I was ahead on points, marginally, but felt ok as the only shot I had on me was on a suped up Ewing with 1 shield and 2 hull left and it was from a ranged 2 Tie fighter. you guessed it, no dodges and direct hit city bloew me away and left me all kinds of dead :(

The first time I every played Boba Fett my brother shot him twice at range one with two rookies. From full health to dead in two shots. Never seen anything like it before or since.

Forgot to shuffle a damage deck once in a casual game. That was pretty crazy.

I was once playing against a Soontir/Whisper/doom shuttle list and after managing to evade Whisper's onslaught Soontir removed the ion turret from my HWK, which made things quite bleak given the match up. After having to shoot at the shuttle with most of my ships due to bad positioning and his arc-dodging, it was finally my bandit's turn to fire and it managed to one-shot Whisper (cloaked and at full health) from range 3 thanks to an extra attack die from Jan Ors and a direct hit. I went from depressed to amazed because of crits on the same combat turn.

Edit: I also once had a shuttle nearing the edge of the board so that it had to do a hard 2 turn to not fly off the side. My opponent gave me a stress crit and off the side it flew =(.

Had echo against Biggs with r2 and shield upgrade at range 1, 5 crits, pilot ability zero and direct hit crit

I hear you mate....

...It's the final combat phase, an injured Rexlar with two hull remaining is surrounded by two x-wings and a y-wing. He targets the full health rookie x-wing in arc at range 1; hit, crit, crit, crit...

...the green dice are rolled... blank, blank... hmmm...

...we go to the cards...

...direct hit, direct hit... DOH...!!!

...end result...? partial (points) loss, from a partial points win...

...and Rexlar...? Of course he survived...:-/

A couple of weeks back I played in my first Tournament, game three was against a super tank Kenkirk - upon said Kenkirk I had inflicted....

Direct Hit - Discarded Intelligence agent to turn it face down

Direct Hit - Discarded Moff to turn it face down

Damaged Cockpit - Determination'd

Stuned Pilot - Determination'd

Damaged Sensor array

Weapon Malfunction

Structural Damage

Minor Hull Breach

The crit that killed him

Minor Explosion was the 11th and 12th damage

In a free for all game, my Carnor Jax one shotted a cloaked Whisper at range band three. Two hits and a crit got through the green dice and guess what flipped up. :D

I once took out a decimator with Keyan and an A-wing in less than 2 turns, 10 of those damage was from Keyan himself, rolling 4 hits/crits at range 2 and 5 hits with a direct hit crit at range 1. (he had opportunist). Did not even need to use the stress to turn any into focuses. Jake (AWing) took care of the other 4 hits.

I had a decimator at full health no shields that was pointing at a corner, but pretty far away from it. I was stressed after using PTL, and then received a single crit, damaged engine. 3 turns later, I sailed off the map.

Faked death or not, Dash always did like going out with a bang!

In a tournament today, Luke rolled hit, hit, focus, focus. I had taken a target lock instead of focus that turn and was cursing my luck. I spent it and rolled Crit, Crit. The Decimator took it all and revealed two Direct Hits, clearing it from the board. I still ended up losing (it was near the end of the semi finals match for the Kennesaw Store Championship and my squad had been reduced to a severely crippled Luke and Wedge and the game ended the next turn when the TIEs were able to squeeze in some hits vs some very blank evade dice.

I plan on a write up soon because it wa an awesome day.

I haven't seen it happen but I liked the story of someone getting into the HLC Outrider's donut hole with a badly damaged ship only to crit the YT-2400 with a Munition's Failure causing the cannon to be discarded and suddenly making the nice safe spot not so safe anymore.

this is anti-epic-kill:

we were playing something like a 125 vs 125 pt game.

I had 3 defenders vs 5dice keyan wedge, wes and 2 Zs.

I put Vessery at R2 from ALL of his ships in a circle. complete surrounded. since it was my first time playing defenders i forgot they didnt have evade, so i take an evade.

keyan shoots, uncharacteristically gets only 3 hits out of 5. vessery dodges 3.

wedge shoots, 2 hits, vessery dodges two

both Zs fire vessery dodges both.

At the end of turn, I remove the evade token from him for clean up. ....

This literally just happened to me a few hours ago. Last round in a tourny. All I had left was one hull point on Whisper, going up against 2 slightly damaged Zs, and an slightly damaged Outrider. I had the most beautiful decloak 3 bank a phantom player could ask for. Sitting happy and safe at range one of Dash while out of arc of the remaining Zs. I shot and got 1 crit through which turned out to be munitions failure. Dash shot and got 3 blanks, then spent his target lock and rolled 3 natural crits! I evaded 2 and exploded which ended the game.

Munitions failure is one of my favorite crits to see on Dash, but this time...not so much

Just played in a small store tournament yesterday. It came down to my one Blue Sq pilot at 5 hp vs. Oicunn at 5 hp. I managed to get into range 1 and rolled 3 crits + blank, TL rerolled to 4 crits. He had Ysanne, so only 3 went through. They were Minor Hull Breach (useless), Weapon Malfunction, and Direct Hit.

The next 4 turns involved me trying to bring my ship around without bumping or allowing him to ram me, all while he attempted to clear the Weapon Malfunction. He never managed to, and on the 5th turn we got into range 3 and I was able to get 3 hits to finish him. I have never seen a Weapon Malfunction be quite so crippling.

I came in here expecting complaints about Huge-ship crits.

This happened to me, except i was the a wing.

I had a great reveresal the other night. Wedge antilles shot a full health tie bomber carrying prokets and stealth device. Crit Crit Crit, all blanks on the evade, Direct Hit Direct Hit Direct Hit

Tonight I played a Decimator:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau PS8
Intimidation
Rebel Captive
Mercenary Copilot
Dauntless

I also had a Black Squadron Wingman (to remove stress from Dauntless) and Carnor Jax with VI.

The plan was to shut down any annoying Phantom re-cloaking shenanigans which worked fin and then also always being able to inflict som Critical Damage against a de-shielded Decimator. Especially the second part worked perfectly in game 2 where I faced a Classic Whisper and Captain Oicunn w/Ruthlessness, Ysanne Isard, Intelligence Agent, Engine Upgrade and Dauntless.

I managed to deal Blinded Pilot in 2 consecutive rounds along some "normal" Damage and lastly a Minor Explosion which blew up the Decimator.

Craziest shot and crit situation I've witnessed and was on the receiving end was this:

I had Backstabber Range 3 behind an asteroid. I had just shot at a Gold Squadron Y-wing with ICT. I Rolled hit-crit and landed a weapons malfunction. He was left with 2 hull and 1 attack dice. My Backstabber had 2 hull and was primed to close in for the kill. The Y-wing would get return fire and was rolling 1 attack dice at my Tie at Range 3 behind a rock. So 1 red dice against 5 green dice. I thought the game was won. No way he can land any hits with his primary. I had no focus because of my K-turn. He had no focus or TL either. He rolls...crit. 1 crit. I roll....I stare at my 5 dice and frown, not a single evade token... 2 focus and the rest blank. Still, no biggie I got 1 hull point left and all I need to do is close in, land 2 hits and he's dead. Flip up the crit, Direct Hit. He had sniped my Tie at range 3 behind a rock with only 1 laser.

**** green dice.

Yeah, a long time ago I was playing against a bunch of Y-Wings. It came down to his last Y against my Defender. He had no shields but good hull. He had a torpedo and an ion cannon turret. I ended up getting a critical hit through with Rexler Brath, and it was munitions failure. He chose to lose the torpedo. I then flipped it with a focus token, and he had to take the munitions failure again, and lost the turret. Then he wasn't able to fire back, and was destroyed a round or two later. Good times.

Just think of all the new crits going to happen with Mangler Cannons and Calculations EPT?

I "rolled" this Crit OMW to this weekend's planned fun with LCG and X-Wing:

image.jpg

Minor Hull Breach / Explosion due to a sudden and very unexpected overlap and APL on the highway. No serious personal injuries so hopefully we at least be able to attend the X-Wing Store Championship on Sunday

Hope you're all safe out there. Cherish the game and life in general

Well, forcing someone to fly Turr Phenir into his rocky doom after an ion+stress combo was cool. I believe a Direct Hit was involved. Then Hobbie, his Stressbot, and his Red, Gold, and Gray escorts directed a fully loaded dupe to its destruction... still fully armed. Does that count?
