need ideas for good HWK builds

By Redjones69, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I need some hwk buildS

HWK-290 + Autoblaster Turret + Saboteur (x5).

::A/N:: More serious list to follow.

Teams for the hwk too would be nice

Yesterday I came up with:

Kyle Katarn: recon specialist, Moldy Crow, blaster turret, shield upgrade, determination.

Jake Farrell: veteran instincts, outmaneuver, proton rockets, A-Wing test pilot.

Garven Dreis: R5-P9, shield upgrade.

It's a lot of upgrades, you might want to drop some in favour of a Z-95 or something.

Jan Ors

- Blaster Turret

- Recon Specialist

Biggs

- R2-D2

- Shield Upgrade

Wedge

This is 94 points, leaving 6p for flavor. You can go with Moldy Crow on Jan and a 3p EPT for Wedge like Marksmanship or Predator, or you could do what I prefer, R2 Astromech and PtL, with 2p for Swarm Tactics on Jan or similar. If you want to you can swap the Blaster Turret and RS for ICT and save some points there, but Wedge and Jan has a real punch either way.

Some might say it's a waste to put upgrades on Biggs, but on many occasions he has survived the first engagement and then flown around regenerating shields and then in late game I've had an unharmed X-wing at PS 5 which is not too bad. Haven't flown this since before wave 4 though, so don't know how it'd hold up against later lists.

Whatever you decide on consider putting chewy crew on it. Those four points mitigate 2 damage and has helped me so many times

Jan Ors

- Blaster Turret

- Recon Specialist

Biggs

- R2-D2

- Shield Upgrade

Wedge

I've been quite successful with a similar list:

Jan Ors

- Ion Canon Turret

Biggs

Bandit

Wedge

- Veteran Instincts

- R7-T1

It works really well against phantoms and most aces lists, and can hold its own against a swarm (TIEs drop quickly when facing 4 attack dice with 2 agility). The problem is that it's difficult to catch a hyper-mobile Dash with the boost droid (which is awesome for catching or escaping arc-dodgers) as you'll usually be out of his arc, but in that case you have to try to block his greens with the bandit.

Yes, Chewie saved me many times on the Hawk. At least 2 damages, and once or twice I cancelled a Direct Hit with him, so it really saved 3 damages. With Jan, Nien Nunb is awesome too since she gets a stress each turn she boosts the attack of another ship.

3 Blue Squadron Bs, 1 Roark with Ion Turret. The last points maybe upgrade one to Nera and give her Swarm Tactics. Then 2 FCS maybe on the Blues?

So

Blue Squadron FCS

Blue Squadron FCS

Nera Daniels Swarm Tactics

Roark Hwk with Ion Turret.

Here's a variation of the classic 3 Amigos. It Trades Luke's late game survivability for early game control.

---

Jan Ors — HWK-290 25
Draw Their Fire 1
Ion Cannon Turret 5
R2-D2 (Crew) 4

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25
R2-F2 3
Experimental Interface 3

Wedge Antilles — X-Wing 29
Draw Their Fire 1
R5-P9 3

The 10pts on the X-Wings are "season to taste" but that is how I usually run the trio.

---

Here's a dual HWK build it's a variation of an XY-XY list replacing the Y's with HWK's.

Jan Ors — HWK-290 25
Blaster Turret 4
Recon Specialist 3

Roark Garnet — HWK-290 19
Blaster Turret 4
Recon Specialist 3

Rookie Pilot — X-Wing 21

Rookie Pilot — X-Wing 21

Not much extra to say about this one. Other than you can drop the both Blasters and Recons for ICTs and Kyle Katarn (crew) on Jan if you want a Control-style List.

This is my favorite team to fly. The PS12 Chain is sweet, extra actions wins games, and chewbacca adds a huge level of survivability to the HWK.

Roark Garnet

Ion Cannon Turret, Chewbacca

Tycho Celchu

Chardaan Refit, A-Wing Test Pilot, Push the Limit, Swarm Tactics

Gemmer Sojan

Chardaan Refit, A-Wing Test Pilot, Swarm Tactics

Airen Cracken

Squad Leader

My second favorite HWK list is: (99 points)

Corran Horn

Fire Control System, Push the Limit, R2D2

Roark Garnet

Ion Cannon Turret, Nien Nunb

Prototype Pilot x2

Chardaan Refit

Seems like it might be too hard to fly the hyper mobile awings in formation...which kind of defeats their intention...

I have had success with this and am going to SC with this

both appear to lack punch...however, given the current meta, i lock the opponent up and escort him off the board or onto asteroids

With a little patience and planning, it's easy enough. If I can get them in and pick off their center of gravity, it is usually enough to tip the rest of the battle into my favor.

Jan Ors with Ion, Kyle Katarn

Biggs

Rookie pilot X2

Simple, effective, and some synergy

Yesterday I came up with:

Kyle Katarn: recon specialist, Moldy Crow, blaster turret, shield upgrade, determination.

Jake Farrell: veteran instincts, outmaneuver, proton rockets, A-Wing test pilot.

Garven Dreis: R5-P9, shield upgrade.

It's a lot of upgrades, you might want to drop some in favour of a Z-95 or something.

Love that build, I've had luck with something very similar:

Kyle: same, but sometimes I've dropped Determination to squeeze R2 onto Garven.

Garven: APT and R5-P9(or R2), no shield upgrade

Jake: VI and Proton Rockets, no test, no Out.

Lot's of fun! I think I may try your Jake loadout and lose the APT on Garven, thanks!
