Hi everybody,
perhaps some of you around here know about the great cardstock micro hangars from DarkPadawan, available at BGG. Unfortunately he stopped updating his work some time ago so I spoke to him if he had any objections with me stepping in and doing further updates.
He hadn't, so if anybody likes them, take a look here:

Scum hangars will follow in time...
X-Wing Micro Hangars (inspired by DarkPadawan)
I still prefer the lil plastic boxes that small ships come in.
those are very cool
Wave 4 hangars are online:

I may be being dense, but I can't see any pictures anywhere of the finished product. What does it look like when it's all built up?

No, not at all, you're perfectly right. There are some photos buried in some BGG thread somewhere, can't find it myself at the moment, so take this picture of my imp collection for now (photo is not up to date, my new phantoms and defenders are missing):
Next time I'll take a photo with open hangar "doors" and X-Wing box to show you the space efficient store potential (does this sentence make sense? Sorry if not...)
If you don't mind reading through a german forum, here are some more pictures from a fellow german player:

They look pretty cool! Is there space inside for dials/base cards/bases/sticks/tokens, or do they just fit the ship itself?
These really just look like plain old boxes that I might throw my ships in.
What am I missing?
Is there something inside that would keep them from rattling around in there, breaking off x-wing and b-wing guns?
They appear to be sized just right to the ship to minimize rolling around. They are also free essentially, since it look slike something that you print yourself. Pretty cool idea.
That's right, they are designed to fit just the ship and because each box is measured to give a rather tight fit nothing rattles around and breaks.
When I first saw this on BGG by DarkPadawan I was very sceptical, too, but I gave it a try because of all the praise in the comments and it works like charm.
It's the most space and cost (you can just print out as many hangars as you like) efficient solution to store and protect the ships, I even gave up my plano solution for this.
Feel free to give it a try and of course you're also welcome to ignore it completely.
Oh, tuck boxes! Got it.
Yes, they are great. I like to use the medium sized ships to fit in the top of my Plano 1374. I'm going to dedicate the last tray I have left for S&V and need something to prevent them from bumping around.

This is going to be my weekend project!
I'm curious : is there a "standard" unit shared between all the tuck boxes?
Not sure how to explain what I mean... Is a TIE Fighter box, say 2x2x2 units, an X-Wing 1x2x3 and a Defender 3x3x2, etc... in such a way that they will stack nicely?
So can someone then show how they store these boxes? Couldn't they still get smashed in these boxes?
I guess my question is how are these saving space if now i have a bunch of little boxes. Currently I can fit like 3 or 4 awings in one plano spot...this would require 4 little boxes? And how are poeple even printing these on cardboard? fancy printers at home???

I'm guessing card stock is more than rigid enough, no need for card board.
I think most people would use these to store ships in a large compartment, not within a plano that already has a bunch of divisions. Just pile all the boxes in there and fill the rest of the space with something so they don't slide around like crazy.

I literally throw mine (no force throw, though) in a big compartment and as stated above, if I don't want them to slide around I could squeeze in some spare foam piece or else. But honestly, even if there's nothing stopping the hangar boxes from sliding the ships won't get damaged unless you're getting really angry with the outer box
The cardboard tuck boxes provide a surprisingly good shelter.
And to answer another question above: There's no standard unit, because this way the boxes won't give this tight and protective fit. Didn't liked that at first, too, but it doesn't bother me anymore.
Going to take a photo tomorrow showing how much ships you can fit into a core game box...
Edited by SirWillibaldWow. That's actually quite ingenious. It's also a quite attractive option.
My current collection and storing method works for me well enough, but as Scum come out, I'll have to give this more thought.
Any chance you will be doing Armada ships as well?
Cheers for your work.
These might save me a fortune on another couple of cases.

Regarding Armada:
Already thought about that, don't know how if I'm willing and capable of starting yet another (great looking) system. But I'd really like to...
OK, here's the deal: You provide me with a core box and one of each Wave 1 ships and I do the boxes. For free, of course. ;-)
Joking aside, if I invest into Armada you'll probably see similar boxes.
Aw, here I thought this was about a cool build/painting project, not cardboard boxes. The idea is not bad by any means, just not what I was expecting.
Then the hangars might be what you are looking for. Just wait until Scum is out, I intend to do boxes for those ships as well.I like to use the medium sized ships to fit in the top of my Plano 1374. Yep, yep! Already got 'em done. Glad someone did the Lambda, finally. That was the last one I needed.
OH, and the Decimator. I guess I have to make one for the Outrider, too. I'm going to put them up there:
Oh, and for those people that are bored at an office job? You can print them off on regular paper, but then glue them to something stiff. I like to use those folders used to hold papers. If you are in an office that isn't new, there are sure to be some of those folders where people actually put things in filing cabinets. The green ones with the metal bands work great. I also found some file folders, too. I use a glue stick to attach them to the folder and then cut the whole thing out. I brought my own glue, but use all the office supplies like paper clips and such to hold them attached.
Now, I really need a way to store and transport my Epic stuff.
