Tie Bombers Only 1 Bomb?

We all see the update to the firespray getting the abilitype to hold multiple bombs. When are we getting an update for the bomber? Seems a bit backwards to me.

Not only are TIE Bombers my favorite ship, I really like the use of bombs, and I agree with your notion of the title of the ship saying it all.

Ha very true - would need to invest in more firesprays if that were the case.

It's a decent idea, but I think it balancing it would require some kind of opportunity cost. The Andrasta title is unique and the Y-Wing Bomb Loadout takes up one of its torpedo slots.

Since FFG has said they want to make changes differently every time, I think a Bomber-only modification would be the way to go. It hasn't been done yet, and it precludes taking Munitions Failsafe so there's your opportunity cost.

Expanded Bomb Racks (TIE Bomber only)

Modification: 1 point

Not bad, but I think I really think the tie bomber should have had 3 or more bomb slots from the beginning. I'd like a torpedo upgrade that converts a torpedo to a bomb slot, for 0 points. Tie bomber only.

It's a tie *bomber*. It should have lots of bombs.

I think the Bomber Patch would read along these lines "this ship to take up to 5 of any secondary weapon upgrade listed on its upgrade bar."

If you want to spend 10pts on ordnance you could take x5 Flechettes or Seismic Charges or whatever.. although while reading and typing multiple Bombers with 15pts of Proximity Mines each is mentally scary. I change my idea to "up to 3"

How about a card like the Y wing, replaces missiles/torpedoes with bombs? You shouldn't be carrying four sets of ordinance anyways.

I feel like they probably wanted to limit the amount of tokens they had to include in the pack. They probably could have had two at most, as the Bomber came with one Seismic and one Proton Bomb. More than that, and they would have started running into logistics problems.

The printing process seems to be the biggest problem for bombs in general. Every bomber needed to include two pieces for the dial, a set of Target Lock tokens, a Focus, a Critical Damage token, two pilot tokens, ID numbers and two bombs. Considering their printing process only allows for two cardboard sheets per ship, there wasn't enough room to add more bombs. This is especially a problem for Proximity Mines, since they take up so much cardboard.

Somehow I think that violates FFG's tendency to make upgrades along the lines of: "We mean to do this all along, really!"

You may equip up to 6 points of bomb upgrades regardless of how many bomb icons are on your card.

The bomber is one of my favorites and I want so much for it to be a bomber not just a bomb

Oh, thanks for reminding me of that. I wonder in what format they'll bring those big plans.

Not to turn this into another "Let's fix ordnance" thread but what about:

Heavy Loadout - 3SP (TIE Bomber Only)

Any ordnance on this ship may be used once before requiring you to discard the upgrade.

Far more important would be titles/modifications that made the bomber's missiles and torps viable. Imagine if proton torpedoes and concussion missiles were suddenly usable. A named bomber pilot that did something with bombs would probably be enough in that department.

I was hoping for a bomber/advanced "aces" style pack, but with the advanced's update being with the raider perhaps we will see a "heavy ordinance" box with bombers and defenders.

Edit: Not to mention a boxed set would be able to have a bunch of bomb tokens in it, ie. proximitiy mines.

I think we will see this for the bombers

For a modification

Increase your bomb slot by 2

For a title

You may place an additional (bomb symbol) before revealing your maneuver dial

OR

Increase the amount of damage you bombs do by 1

OR

If you have placed a bomb and it does not hit an enemy ship, the card is not discarded.

I'd like to see an 'Aces' box set for bombers, and maybe defenders, but mostly a bomber pack.

Maybe a title, to give it another bomb pod, and a new miniature 'heavy bomber' and it has the over/under bomber as a new mini.. maybe another title... offers a 2 fer... buy one get one free, something like that

Bombers are my second most favorite ship, next to the Advanced.. I would really like to see them as a viable and competitive ship. I work continuously to try to find good bomber lists to run.. I have a couple that are fun, but probably won't be great in a tourney. I may put that to the test soon though..

In a bomber aces pack they could easily give tokens for all the bombs and mines in 2s, and maybe 2 each of all ordnance to really kickstart someone who just got into bombers.. maybe even throw in a new bomb or mine... also give a upgrade for a second bomb slot, a much needed option.

I'll be quite happy to keep the bomb loadout as it is, as long as we get something else that make the TIE Bomber stand out at bombing.

My personal preference would be something that allows you to be more aggressive with bombs (as opposed to proximity mines). At the moment you have to guess how your target is going to move for the next 2 moves, and at the moment of dropping the bomb you're just hoping that your target will be kind enough to move onto your bomb. Instead I would like a way to do something like dropping the bomb at a point under your flight path.

I agree, it would be nice to see the bomber used as an ordnance platform as opposed to simply a cheap TIE.

I guess I feel, that it was illogical that they gave a ... bomber.. only one bomb slot, but 2 each of the torp and missile slots.. personally I wish it had been the other way, especially since one will never set up a bomber with all that ordnance in any game.. I cant even see it in an epic game...

Its just silly that the only ship that will be able to carry more than one bomb... will be a Firespray... come on.. seriously..

Bombers.. they do one thing really good.. Drop bombs.. they make a great missile boat, but need more bomb slots...

On things like the TIE Bomber and the Y Wing ordnance slots should just be ordnance slots, or at least be more flexible than the rigid structure they are now I feel. Make them more like modern planes that can carry all kinds of different load outs.
