Captured by the Enemy

By Icosiel, in Game Masters

Hello friends of the Edge of the Empire forums!

It's been a long week and I have a game tonight. I'm super tired and uninspired, so I thought I'd turn to my fellow GMs for some ideas on how tonight's game should go.

Last game, my players were defeated in combat by Maver, an Anzat they've been hunting for some time. Since most of them are Force-sensitive, Maver captured them rather then killing them. They are aboard his ship now, and tonight's game is going to involve them escaping from his ship and hopefully returning back to their planet where their homestead is. I'd love some ideas on how to make this exciting, fast-paced, and fun.

Some Details About My Crew and the Setting:

-Our game takes place roughly three years before the events of AotC.

-They are all young, and mostly Padawans.

-Maver is ancient. He's killed many people, and many Force-sensitives. He loves the juice that's siphoned from the heads of Jedi.

-My players killed all five of Maver's Anzat buddies.

-The players have no connection or ties with the Republic at the moment (they are off on an isolated mission to prove their worth as Jedi).

I have few ideas rumbling about my head (something going wrong and the ship crashes, Maver's clan comes to meet him aboard the ship to join in the feast of Jedi), but I'd really appreciate any ideas whatsoever. Just throw them out there, if you have any! Thanks guys.

Do they all have the Move Force Power?

Did the previous victims leave anything behind say some gruesome trophy case holding say lightsabers or something like a bandolier holding something useful that has escaped their hosts attention?

Is there a bounty on either their captor or them leading to an attack to secure the prize(either them or the Anzati?) since this is before AOTC Count Dooku wouldn't be interested in some new recruits would he?

Assuming he didn't arrange the Anzati ambush to test their mettle...

The "something goes wrong" is classic and works well. Variations:

  • Have Maver come under attack by pirates. The pirates board the ship, Maver is dealing with them, and the power gets cut by a stray shot allowing the PCs to escape.
  • Maver needs supplies, or to meet a contact on planet. While he's off ship for an hour, see what the PCs can do to free themselves.
  • Someone doesn't like Maver and is after him. This is much like the pirates one, though this time the ship might get slagged enough that the PCs are free... but on a ship that is about to crash on an unknown planet.
  • "Soup" can be beyond intoxicating according to some of the EU stories. Maver feeds on one of the PCs (pick an appropriate critical hit or two, or maybe halve his stats and max his strain). Maver is now either: a) passed out with a barely functional PC next to him, b) tripping balls, c) so incredibly amped that he has to go off and kill something, clearly not thinking straight so not implementing any extra security that a rational Maver would have done.
  • Families of the slain Anzat have a disagreement with Maver on who those jedi heads belong to. In the ensuing fight/struggle, the PCs have an opportunity to escape, but it better be fast, and quiet.
