OCTGN organized play - season 2

By sammann11, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

Hello all,

Well, I figured I'd take up the torch on running another round of 40k Conquest OCTGN "league" games. Some of us have asked about more "organized" octgn play so I figured why not.

Not all of us get a chance to have a reliable playgroup or get into tourney play and heck, even some of us who do still enjoy getting games in on octgn when we can!

If you are interested please email me at [email protected]. Please label the subject heading "40k OCTGN" so my junk mail filter doesn't boot you out.

Please provide the following:

email address

OCTGN username

cardgame db username

I'll need to hear back from everyone interested by Friday, February 13th. That will give me a couple of of days to set up round 1 matches so we can start on Monday the 16th.

Hope you all will join us!

Dumb question, but how does a "season" work? Or what all does it entail (how many games, how long do you get to play, etc)?

Thanks.

The length will somewhat depend on how many players we have. Right now we're at a little over a dozen. It will probably go 6 weeks (1 match per week) and then I'll cut it to top 4. The first 6 weeks will be Swiss style pairings, then the top 4 will be elimination after that to determine the winner.

Will try to join the next! Currently my biggest issue is time and considering most participants are from the US we also have totally different area time zone.

And is a match best 2 of out 3, or just 1 and done?

Just 1 game. So 1 game a week.

I do plan on running another season after this one. Hope to see you then Killax!

1 game competition? That is no good. The entire reason competitions play multiple games is to mitigate luck. You get a bad draw and you are out with no chance to try again.. that is just bad. Seriously it should be best of 3 or somthing for each round. Otherwise it is not a competition, it is just a organized practice game pool.

Booored,

One game per round is taken directly from FFG's Organized Play rules for this game, which can be found here:

It's also why (other than top 4) it is not single round elimination (to reduce the bad luck factor). It is highly unlikely that someone would draw a bad hand, mulligan, and draw another bad hand multiple games in a row. If that keeps happening they may have just built a bad deck. Plus, setting up 2 or even 3 times to play over OCTGN in a week would he tough for some and stretching the length between rounds to multiple weeks is too long.

One game per round may not be the best way but we're just working with the OP rules. If you're unhappy with the format I would consult the Organized Play team. As for this specific league, well, no one is making anyone participate.

I find it really amazing how someone that didn't buy the game and played very little of it because Tyranids/Necrons aren't in it yet, can keep bashing and trolling constantly about this game non-stop.

oh ic.. I misunderstood. I thought you were doing a single elimination thing of a single game.

Yeah, see earlier post on this thread which read:

Has this started? I thought I had sent an email but haven't heard anything. Just checking.

I apologize, but if you did send an email I did not receive it. Did you label the subject heading "40k OCTGN"?

We did already start up. However I am happy to hear you're interested and can offer a couple of things to try to smooth over being left out:

1) I can let you know if someone drops out.

2) I'll keep your name on file for when season 2 begins in May.

Let me know and sorry again i didn't get your email!

Odd, yeah, I sent an email on Friday. Not sure what happened. Just tried sending again. Oh well.
