I Wish I Knew How To Quit You

By Mikael Hasselstein, in X-Wing

So, is there a list you just can't quit flying?

For my part, I fly the TIE Bomber-centric squad below. While I've done a small tweak here or there, this just seems to remain the squad I just can't quit.

Captain Jonus + Squad Leader + Seismic Charge

2x Scimitar Squadron + Ion Pulse Missile + Flechette Torpedoes + Proximity Mines + Munitions Failsafe

2x Academy Pilot

At the risk of broadcasting, it's probably the list I'll fly in the Store Championship tournaments, unless someone does a real good job of talking me out of it. Even so, I'd have to practice flying a different list, and I don't think I have the time to do so.

So, Jonus & Friends, I Wish I Knew How To Quit You.

EDIT: I forgot the Munitions Failsafe

I think it looks fine. It should do well against large ships, prox mines actually work quite well against phantoms, and you should have the staying power to take on swarms. Plus, I think it is better to fly a "lower tier" squadron that you know well then to fly the current meta lists poorly.

I use a similar list, same ships just different weapon loads. It is my favourite Imperial list to use and I'm loathe to change.

I need a Kath Scarlet Firespray in my list or it just doesn't feel right at all.

I wish I knew how to make a non offensive broke back joke but I got nothing, I feel I've failed the whole community.

Well he's hinting at Jonus and his friends. But if he can't stop using this list he's left heading in only One Direction.

I can't stop flying Falcons... I just... Can't...

Then I have good news because soon the interceptor strikes back will be released to a table near you, you'll thrill at how autothrusters and stealth devices combine to make them untouchable, your heart will race as three small ships decimate all they encounter and tears will be in your eyes during the climax as the Empire emerges victorious.

The interceptor strikes back, coming this spring.

Lt. Blunt Blount will slow those pesky squInts down. although you might need to keep him within a Biggs Sphere or bubble.

I have an unhealthy obsession with Echo.

I can't quit Dash and Horn.

Corran or Fel depending on what side I'm running.

No such problems for me. Just about the only time I've used a list more than twice is during tournaments.

Firespray plus interceptors for me.

Z swarm in one form or another. :)

TIE Miniswarm backing up something expensive and nasty.

Generally, when I win with a build I put it away and try something else, but I am not a fan of 2 ship builds and like my mini TIE Swarm.

I like it for 2 reasons really. One, I enjoy the heroes killing ties mechanic of the game, and even laugh when i roll 4 blanks and one goes poof. Two, the TIE swarm fits the theme of the Empire. Sure sometimes I field elite builds, but the swarm+ baron is fun.

I actually really like that list, and might be stealing it soon.

Interceptors for sure.

And man I hope you're right...

I had a preview last tuesday and i enjoyed it, my mate not so much MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I had a hard time leaving Darth Vader, Backstabber, and a bunch of nameless Tie Fighters. I won a lot of events with them, even when the Soontir Fel clone army arrived.

I do have a question on your list, though. If you are using Ion Pulse Missiles, why are you taking Jonus? You only get to re-roll the dice once, so you can't use TL and Jonus' ability in the same turn. I don't see any real use for Jonus. I also don't see how you do damage. I would think you would want to use hard hitting ordnance if you are using Jonus.

The Jake/Soontir style of movement is one of the most enjoyable things for me

I can't play a game without at least one PS 9/10 pilot without a boost/roll or both, and that was since long before phantoms hit the scene :P

I'm with ficklegreendice. The Red Baron or Tycho with Experimental Interface and PtL to bounce all over the place. I know that technically speaking phantoms are better at arc dodging and have more placement options. Despite that I still have better success with Fel than I do the phantoms.

It's because they aren't prissies

when you're arc dodging with Jakes/Fell, you're doing it only after you've moved (not before, so don't get blocked!) and in order to do so with a 1" roll you're going to have to be in their face!

it's some tense, suspenseful ****

Doomshuttle + mini-swarm.

I think it's just the pure thematic look of it on the table that draws me in. An Imperial shuttle being led in by a small cloud of TIE Fighters just looks so...right.

And I love the Doomshuttle for taking on Phantoms - it hangs far enough back that it can usually catch one in its range 3 (especially when it unpredictably 'stops' every now and then). And if it's only rolling unmodified 3 dice against 5-6 dice with focus...so what? YOU STILL GET CRIT, ANYWAY, TRAITOR - BWAHAHAHAHA!!
