Bets on the Release Date

By Mikael Hasselstein, in Star Wars: Armada

Something that's been mentioned elsewhere is the possibility that different countries might have different release dates (e.g. due to the port delays in the U.S.). How will this affect the bets? :P

I guess we'll have to go with FFG's official release date.

As the OP, this is not a ruling I make lightly. I realize that many people's hopes and dreams are riding on the grand prize for winning this bet.

I'll take the unclaimed slot in April (21st-26th) as I think it will be late April early May before we see it, especially those of us in the UK. Also it is just after payday for me which is handy.

Done.

It would seem that FFG is betting on March 31 2015... With the new site theme (which I still cannot figure out how to revert), a "future" news item was revealed on the Armada product page.

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/star-wars-armada/products/star-wars-armada/

At the bottom, in a giant red box, a new news article labeled

"Your Are in Command

StarWars: Armada Is Now available"

With the article date of March 15.

Not sure how long it'll be before they fix this.

Thanks for the links.

I am not seeing a date on the page attached to the first link.

Second link is not working for me at all.

Yeah, they took them down shortly after I posted everything... we already know they're expecting lengthy shipping delays, so who knows when their release date is at this point. But it was intresting to see it show up.

Extra bit of info. Walmart is now carrying Armada as a preorder and has an estimated delivery date of April 29 to May 6 (depending on which shipping method is chosen).

I don't find that on the Walmart sight... do you have a link?

Yeah, $40 off aint bad, but it's Walmart. I'd only order them if they were the only ones with stock left. I'm seeing on the site they think they'll receive stock on April 28. Wonder how accurate that is.

I wonder if it would actually be so bad for FLGSs for Walmart to carry the Armada core set. The $100 is probably a bit of a threshold for people. If they can get over the threshold by having it lowered to $60, then it will bring more people into the game. Those people can then buy expansions from the FLGSs, which they otherwise would not have bought.

Of course, maybe those people would have bought other products from the FLGS instead.

Thanks for the links. That $60 price tag tempts me to get a second core set...

Yeah, Miniature Market also has it for $60, and I preordered 1 yesterday, but with it being that cheap I might just go get a second...

Has someone figured out if the core set is a deal for what you get, like the X wing core set?

It's buried in a thread somewhere with an obvious title. But I seem to recall the conclusion being that a second core set wasn't cost effective. You'd get extra models sure but none of the new cards you'll inevitably want from the expansion versions. Likewise, the range ruler can now be bought separately which was the main draw of a second core set, the same can be said of the dice. So I don't believe it's worth it when you could just get the expansions and accessories on their own, especially now at all their discounted preorder prices.

Aww heck, guys. Wish I'd seen this earlier...

Hehe. MUST RESIST...and save up for Wave 2!

Very tempted to pick up the CR90 and NEB-B Expansions though! Gotta be strong!

nah! buy more Imps :D

I am putting my virtual Credits on the week 16-22 of March. It better be there cause we're doing a huge FFG SW games demo. I will be doing demos in/for a FLGS on 14th of March with the possibly only copy of Armada (at least to my knowledge) floating around in Denmark. I hope to have it at my home for a few days to get acquainted with the rule set

Some Math:

It looks like FFG was thinking March 31st for the release date before things were worked out at the docks, which was 38 days from when docks picked their pace back up. This is assuming that the product was shipped and waiting to be unloaded at the docks, and that FFG was predicting it would take that long if the conflict wasn't resolved. Assuming 10 days to get the product to stores from the docks, that leaves 28 days of waiting. With the docks back up to full speed from their previous 25%, presumably the waiting will take 1/4 as long as expected, which brings it down to 7 days of waiting at the docks, which would mean about 17 days from when the docks were fully operational (2/21).

This is probably wrong for a lot of reasons, but maybe that means we'll have it by Tuesday, March 10th?

Done and done.

It will be a cruel twist of fate for me if Forensicus is correct . I'm going to be out of state for the second half of March, during which my pre-order will be languishing at the FLGS if he is correct.

Rofl...geeze...now I'm $105 AUD poorer! I was weak!!! I am weak...so weak.

It's not my fault! :o

Now I shall go and personally apologise to the Lady Vader...hopefully I won't meet the same fate as Captain Needa.

LMAO!!! I'm glad my wife plays all the games with me. Makes it much easier for purchasing...

Biggest problem is the current backlog of ships waiting to be unloaded. So just because they might (note: they haven't voted yet) come to an agreement now, doesn't mean they are at 100% right now. It'll take a month before they are unloading in 'real time' (ie unloading ships that arrived that day, rather than weeks earlier).

Plus I'm more inclined to believe the March 31 release date wasn't taking into account dock problems, as FFG doesn't have the best track record for things like that. So I'm thinking it might be here on time, or late, but not early.

The articles I've read have said that an agreement was reached, and work resumed on Saturday. They also say it will take months to clear the backlog, but I'm guessing that Armada has been waiting in that backlog for some time.

I'm with you on the March 31st date not being reliable. I'm not convinced it had any real meaning at all, but I just don't have anything else to go on :P

From what I've seen the estimates are a few weeks to a month or two of backlog. I would say late April is a better estimate but at this point it could be almost any time over the next three months.

My wife plays with me if i ask, but she isnt very stratigic. She would run a Neb B head on into the front arc of a ISD...so the games have no challenge if you know what i mean.
