The Anti-Decimator Anti Phantom Squadron (Stress Ion Build)

My Rebel Ion Storm List (Stress Ion Build)

100 points

Lt Blount

  • Ion Pulse Missile

Nera Dantiels

  • Ion Cannon
  • Ion Torpedo
  • Flechete Torpedo

Gold Squadron

  • Ion Cannon Turret
  • R3-A2
  • Flechete Torpedo
  • Flechete Torpedo

Bandit Squadron

  • Ion Pulse Missile

Can't say this list was all that good because both my wins were time outs and I killed the higher value ship. My first match was against Dash Outrider with Keyan Farlander and Chardaan Prototype. My Bandit squadron got blown up by Dash and Keyan before it got a chance to fire its pulse missile at dash. Still Lt. Blount took the shot and ionized Dash then Gold R3 stressed Dash to move him out of the fight. Keyan got ionized and sent in the wrong direction. The prototype did A-wing stuff. But mostly stayed out of the way. Keyan ate a Ion Torpedo and a flechete torpedo in the back then got focused down. There was a little too much bumping on my part with both Blount and Nera on the back of the Gold Squadron. The Y-wing was taking a beating from HLC but managed to get in the range 1 bubble and then time out. It was my Farlander Kill against his Bandit kill 32-15.

Now for the fun match. Against Whisper + Kenkirk.

So this was his list.

Kenkirk w/ Issard + Vader + Jade & Lone Wolf

Whisper w/ ACD + Outmaneuver + Rebel Captive + FCS.

So I started in my right corner and he had Kenkirk closer to the center and whisper on the other side of the table. I Flew at Kenkirk and with my Bandit Ion Pulsed missile Kenkirk the Gold R3 to fly him towards the center. Blount had a TL but did not use it as he was out of arc so he stayed off to the sides. After that set back he decided to move Whisper in closer but bumped into the Decimator. Still was able to get a cloak thanks to ACD. It took the chance and using Nera's trick shot fired a Ion torpedo at the Decimator giving an ion token to both Kenkirk and Whisper as well as crit making Kenkirk PSkill 0. My Gold Squadron did the same adding Ion so that the stress stuck making sure that Issard was shut down and the decimator was imobilized.

Capitalizing on the lock down of the cluster I had both Nera and Gold fire the Flechete Torpedoes into Whisper with Nera taking the stress. Whisper thanks to the cloak was able to evade all the hits but still took the effects for the stress. The Bandit continued to take pot shots at dodging Kenkirk. Blount off to the sides had to K turn to stay relevant to the fight but was mostly in reserve. Mara took place and everyone else had a stress token (Whisper had 2)

Well after that he would not decloak whisper essentially taking him out of the game. I continue to blast the decimator. It shook off the stress but was getting close to the table edge. At this time I was able to move blount into position. Kenkirk Hard 1 left facing the table edge at 45 degrees. (I assumed he wanted to make another hard turn to stay on table). However I had blount fire his Ion pulse missile dooming the Decimator to run off the edge. The decimator was at 2 hull used vader to bring the Y-wing down to 1 hull and 0 agility. Whisper just finished shaking off the stress and was turning around but then that was the time limit and end of the game.

So that was my stress Ion. To be fair I was placed in the lower bracket because I didn't play so well in the leauge (which went straight to competitive format ditching achievements.) Still it faced Super Dash and Decimator and Whisper and succeeded. Might be dice, might be mistakes. I will admit I played against a 2 and 3 ship builds so against swarm it might have problems or against lists that have 4 ships to match mine. With control you almost need 2 ships to control 1 ship so swarm will definitely eat this alive. Still the list did what it was supposed to do. What do you think of it?

I think you're awesome for playing that list rather than complaining that the Decimator and Phantom are too powerful....

No, really, the list looks like it would be a blast to play. Sure, it's got its weaknesses, but it gets bonus points for being the most annoying list at the tournament. The photo of the Decimator and Phantom bumping needs to be framed and put on a wall in your local store.

Excellent Ion Storm Squadron!

I like this build, very clever!

Ion Torpedoes.

Very interesting.

Good write up and I love the pictures you took in game.

Yeah I was wondering about those too. It is so expensive I only took 1 and gave it to the best torpedo pilot there Nera. It does a good job, the first match I used it I only Ionized 1 ship but the damage added by 4 dice was worth it and it kept the ship from turning around so I could kill it later. The 2nd match where it really shined was due in part to my opponents bumping into his decimator for which I took advantage of.

I still have mixed feeling of the Ion token being worth 1 more point than a focus=>crit modification for torpedoes. It works and it is Ion that can do some serious damage instead of 1 shield/face down card a shot. Still I don't know. IMHO Flechette Torpedoes are still the best Torpedo Weapon.

I was really surprised to how well Ion Pulse Missiles worked in both games. Then again with the meta being so big ship heavy come to think of it why wouldn't they work?

I am with you on the FlechetteTorpedoes. Definitely the best cost/effect of the current crop of torpedo choices we have.

So, your opponent, with a 2 ship list, managed to bump their own ships on the second turn, right in front of your firing arcs? Is this what people mean when they talk about beating Phantoms?

Edit: Okay, went back and reread it, not the second turn, but still. I've played many games against 2 ship lists and I've never seen an opponent bump their own ships together on any turn.

He did misjudge his cloaking forward distance causing the bump as he intended to swing his phantom in to combat as I was Ion Hammering on his decimator once it entered the asteroid field. I just took the opertunity to lock that mistake and lock the phantom cloak with stress. In order to save his phantom he never decloaked it leaving it at attack 0 and left me with the decimator.

Yes half of it was his mistake but the other half was me capitalizing on it with the splash ion and stress control attacks. Even if he didn't bump I would still be able to add the Ion token (range 1 from decimator with ion torpedoes) and the double stress with the flechete torpedoes and R3-A2. In hindsight I missed an additional stress token from not using R3-A2 because I forgot Mara Jade cannot stress ships that already had stress so I am not saying that I flew this match perfectly.
