Upcoming Store Championships: What to watch out for.

By Coshuda, in X-Wing

I am split between 2 lists

Howlrunner + ruthlessness

Black squad + ruthlessness (x3)

Turr Phennir + ruthlessness

or

Captain Oicunn + determination + rebel captive + dauntless

Rear admiral Chiraneau + determination + Ysanne Isard

I initially liked Ruthlessness but quickly found that enemies can quite easily just stay at R2+ from each other, and thereby nullify 15pts of your list.

that, and it seems that approx 80% (not an exaggeration, I counted) of all lists I face are 2 ship lists

This makes me think that my black squadron/targetting computer swarm should be used instead.

First off, I have never considered "Staying away from netlists" in a game like x-wing, because there are realistically limited options so almost anything you would build has been built and posted somewhere and thus basically everything is a "netlist" to a degree.

I actually just posted my detailed take on the metagame..here's the link to it in the forums:

http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/133577-the-metagame-tiers-for-store-championship-season-discussion/

The synopsis was bascially this though for those less inclined to click. I have full details on these squads in my other post:

TIER 1: Squads with NO True Hard Counter

  • Fat Han w/any Wingmate(s)
  • Full TIE Swarm

TIER 2: Squads with 1 True Weakness

  • Dash w/any Wingmate(s)
  • Whisper w/any Wingmate(s)
  • Fat Chiraneau w/any Wingmate(s)

TIER 3: Basically everything else that struggles against the top 2 tiers in some combination and doesn’t beat each other

Below are some Notable in this category (Please note that I don’t mean JUNK in a derogatory way, but rather the idea of it being made of different parts that are not usually together in the same way.):

  • Junk TIE Swarm
  • Junk Rebel Swarm
  • “Control Builds”
  • Dual Large Ships

By other biggest point is that these are most likely flown by very experienced players that took advantage of holes in their local metagames. These squads can win and do well, BUT they need to be flown well and potentially get some lucky dice to overcome the odds.

Though a friend of mine made top 8 with double sigmas and Carnor jax.

I just thought of this combination today and thought it was super original, though I decided to wait for autothrustors for Carnor (given the turret meta). He'll be nasty if the sigmas are equipped with sensor jammer.

As for the current meta, everyone I know has been playing turrets or something anti-turret. Given the popularity of two-ship builds I expect that Biggs with R4-D6 will be pretty useful, particularly against phantoms, HLC outriders and decimators w/expose+EI.

I've seen quite a bit of yt1300+2400 running around my local meta seems to have fallen in love with recon specialist

oh boy

Auto-thursters Carnor Jax is going to have the biggest "what up, *******?" comeback over there

I cannot tell you how excited I am to ruin Super-Dash/Fat Falcon's day with this combo. It still blows my mind how few people ran Carnor during Wave 4, since the amount of meta-hate he draws is equal to that of the Falcon.

I've had entire swarms ignore Bounty Hunters, Ties, and Buzzsaw Shuttles just to chase down Carnor Jax. If I could find a consistent enough list that runs Carnor and Phantoms, I don't think I'd ever go back to full tie swarms....

Shhhh keep jax a secret!

What upgrades were on the Sigmas and Jax being discussed? I always love messing with Sigmas, but can't seem to find their happy place..

Not that what I use is what's being sought after, but I've enjoyed: Sigma, FCS + Stygium + Intelligence agent. Bloody difficult ships to fly, but really engaging :)

Only I used two of them with Whisper (FCS, ACD, V.I)

I have yet to play test anything, but was thinking about the following build:

98 points

Jax with PtL, SD and autothrustors (34)

Sigma with SPA, SJ and IA (32) x2

There are a lot of upgrade options here depending on what you want to do, but IA is to ensure that Jax can get into range 1 of higher-PS ships and as long as that happens he should be able to shut down their focus/evade actions and employ sensor jammer to the max. You could also exchange his PtL for VI and upgrade the intel agents to tacticians/recon specialists/etc for a more controlling/defensive/etc list, depending on your preference.

I tried out KineticOperator's six sigma list a couple times (I much prefer Echo's decloak options) and found that the sigmas are extremely good at shutting down super Dash (and two-ship lists in general), but you really have to be careful when flying a phantom without ACD. Like you say, really engaging =).

I like all the feedback folks. I have been considering some off the cuff builds to deal with some of these prominent threats. My first store championship will be next weekend, so I will tell you all how it goes.

For some of these more popular builds/lists does anyone have some lists? Would be helpful to playtest against if I know the most popular build/list.
