Kings Of The Sea Exp - contents ?

By DSV1, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I was wondering could someone breakdown what you get in the new box set as its as dear as the core set but only has 60 cards in it ?

Seems steep the price considering you get 4 x 50 card decks plus the board, 6 titles and figures in the core set ?

cheers

From the Front page:

Coming this July, the first feature expansion for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, Kings of the Sea. In this expansion, House Greyjoy returns in force to the A Game of Thrones metagame, with a pre-constructed deck featuring the reavers of the Iron Fleet, including favorite characters such as Balon Greyjoy, Aeron Damphair, Wex Pyke, and Dagmer Cleftjaw, retooled to thrive in the LCG format .

Also included in this expansion is "The Kingsmoot", a brand-new multiplayer variant, where players compete for the support of the Iron Isle's chieftains.

Finally, Kings of the Sea features a beautifully sculpted "Arms of the Kraken" resin house card. This expansion brings with it a wealth of new strategies, tactics, and dek-building opportunities for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game

It hasn't been released yet, so no one can break down what is actually in the box. The only information anyone has is from the articles in the news section of the site.

But here's the link to the article. No one (outside of FFG) knows anything more than that.

Its the resin house card that is making it seem 'too expensive.' it is cheaper then the core set ($40) at $29.95 and it just highlights how great a deal the core set was. The pricing (especially if you go by Chapter pack standards) is close to FFGs scheme. for $10 you get 40 cards so look at half of the price of the set being $15 for 60 cards. that leaves you paying $15 for a house card (which used to be redemption only and cost much more then that if you want to buy it on e-bay or even if you looked at its costs via redemption). PLus you get new rules as a bonus (unless you want to include that in the $15.

The only thing i don;t like about the cost is that to have a playset of all the cards i'm going to have to buy 3x and the second house card drops depreciable in value as does ther third. Maybe FFG will be nice and have a buy one get a 1/4 off the next sets you buy type sale (maybe at gencon, please please please! :P)

~It is.

Well, i also see the Greyjoy expansion as the most unattractive AGOT CCG/LCG item ever juding from the "prices for the amount of card value you receive" ratio. I don´t need fancy things like a special house card or a big box to deliver 60 or so cards. Adding the shipping cost on the sales price makes me feel sick. llorando.gif

Buy 3 you'll have free shipping :P

no local retailer? or do they charge you to ship it to them?

~you could always drive to spain ;)

Without dreams we would go crazy(ier), or at least according to most sci-fi tv shows.

Aye, no local retailer. Not that it would make a big difference in the absolut price. So there are two options:

1. Order it directly via an oline shop in the USA and get it within 3-4 days after it´s release and pay taxes as well as as high shipping cost which raises the price usually by half, because the **** box is so big.

2. Order it anywhere in Germany and pay the value of the dollar price in euro and ( note that the exchange rate is not anywhere near 1:1 !) probably add shipping cost as well and have it 3-4 weeks after the original US release date.

If the box had the size of a starter or chapter pack the price would be acceptal in both cases. So in this case i would definetely rather prefer to order a CCG display and get 350 or so additional cards. The amount of dollar paid per gaming card ratio is definetely better, even if i had to chase for some rares.

If i find a retailer that´s willing to do the deal i´ll let everybody know. :-)

Correct me if i'm wrong but I thought the core set was sold cheaply(at a loss). So you shouldn't compare it with that.

Don't forget that in addition to the grey joy deck there will also be a king/queen for every other house.

BTW: where are you from Old Ben, I get mine at a 15% discount in a shop in Belgium

I had heard the same thing about the Core set, that the profit margin was small or non-existant. I suppose I equate this with consoles of popular video game systems, where the manufacturer loses money on the console knowing they will make their profit on the games.

All that being said, when I spoke with Nate as I wrote my spoiler article, I expressed my displeasure at the price. I plan on buying 3 of them. I will spend $90. And I will get 180 cards for that $90. If I bought 9 chapter packs (spending the same 90 bucks), I would end up with 360 cards, twice that amount. I don't feel like the expansion set needs to be similar to the Core set in price per card, but it does seem to make sense to make it closer to the Chapter packs.

Core set retail $40/220 cards = 18 cents per card

Chapter pack $10/40 cards = 25 cents per card

Expansion set $30/60 cards = 50 cents per card

The core sets came with cardboard counters, a game board and multiplayer pieces

Chapter packs come with pieces of cardboard that make a cool noise in my sons' bikes

Expansion set comes with special House Card

For me, a more attractive price would $24.95 with at least 80 cards in the set

Germany, Siegen. The city is the last fort in NRW before you reach Hessen. ;-) So it´s not that far from the Belgium border. Besides, If you live in Belgium you´ll probably want to contact Morbiczer to play a game or two (if you didn´t already), he is living and working in Bruxelles.

all the extra stuff in the core set was free to the consumer, but not free to FFG, there is why thye probably lost money. Its also not a model for sustainabilty.

Again, if i was only buying 1x of the expansion i'd have no problem paying the price and the extra for the house card. Its the 2nd and 3rd house card and paying full price each time that bothers me.

Well some french online retailers offer shipping for an order of 50€ or more. I guess a lot of online shops do the same, it's a common marketing offer.
