More than One Set of Limbs on Droids

By GM Hooly, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

One of my players has asked to get an extra set of limbs similar to General Grevious. I've said it would be double the hard point cost, double the cost of the cybernetics and would work like the Xextos species in Stay on Target.

Any other suggestions on how to handle this?

What hard point cost is there to double?

Sounds about right. 2 cybernetic points to get the maneuver bonus seems reasonable. You could even justify charging a few more credits for it for the "software upgrade" needed for the coordination to operate an extra pair of limbs. For most things like that, also, I tend to include to caveat "Let's see how that works in the next couple games" so you can recton/adjust if it's being to crazy.

I meant cybernetic points. My bad.

The more I look at the rules for building a droid character, the more problematic and "loosey-goosey" they appear. Any suggestions?

What do you mean? They build very similar to other characters, save for in relation to cybernetics. They get more of these, but that costs a lot of money.

You are referring to PCs I assume. NPCs are "yeah, whatever."

Well, one of the main problems with that cybernetic cap is that it only limits the cybernetic enhancements, not cybernetic limbs/organs in general. So you'd probably have to work up some specifics like cost, benefits, etc.

For building droid characters, my suggestion is rule in their favor. Droids can easily get the shaft, so let them integrate whatever they want to integrate. BUT, abide by RAW as strictly as possible. For example, no two-handed weapons integrating into one hand. That's just silly.

I can see doing a set of rules for Building PC droids in my future :)

I guess it's a case of how many cybernetic points things take up what.

Has anyone attempted droid rules other than those in the game?

Im not in front of my books right now but there are 2 types of cyber limbs, 1 for brawn, 1 for Agility. There must be a way to have different affects based upon which arms they choose. I like the extra cost too, perhaps put it that you have to get your original arms removed and chassis upgraded to support the extra load. Basically it's going to cost 3 cybernetic points and 20k credits to get it done. In my game that would cover the installation cost too, but up to the GM

One of my PC's just did this in the past month. I deffinately took quicksilvers approach of fore-warning him "lets see how this works and it may be changed later.

I put the price at a net 16,000 credits. 10,000 for cyberlimbs that matched the stat enhancement he already had (no double dipping, just had to be a matching set) as well as 6,000 for a specialised sub-processor to coordinate the limbs. Only game effect so far is being able to have more items readied at once as well as the ability to use up to 4 one-handed weapons at once (add X-1 purple dice to difficulty where X = number of weapons being used) or 2 carbine sized guns at once (+1 purple dice). No twin wielding anything bigger than a carbine! Interesting thing is that this is a drop in firepower for him, as he can't auto-fire with a carbine sized weapon (he is a full on ranged DPS assassin droid).

Feedback from the PC so far is that he was hoping that it might raise his Enc. threshold slightly (1 or two points) to reflect the added arms to carry stuff with. I'm not seeing that as being to big an issue as it would be the same as a utility belt or load bearing gear, just suitably turned into a droid version.

On a semi-related point, one big draw back to playing a droid that has emerged in my game is that there is no equivalent of Doctor or Medic trees for droids. There is no equivalent of Surgeon, Stimpack Spec or Bacta Spec talents. For some reason, droids seem to take much longer to repair than organic beings...

Droid repair will be fixed in tech splat book? I'm convinced we will get a specialisation that's a droid maker/fixer and rules modifying and building. That spec is where the droid doctor talents will live.

Same will show up for AoR, someone fixed R2-D2 after he got shot up!
