Castle Daerion Encounter 1 Question

By Colgha, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Just a quick question on this encounter. My friend was using the Villagers to light the beacons, he argued that when lighting the beacons by testing Knowledge or Awareness that because it didn't count as an action then the Villagers could do it (because they can't take more actions than moving or opening/closing doors, but testing isn't an action). I argued that they couldn't because that seems absurd, but he made a compelling point. So can the Villagers light the Beacons here?

Thanks!

I think the quest rules say "a hero can test." As far as quest rules are concerned, ONLY the 2-4 main heroes are heroes. Other things treated as such only count as such for OL cards and monster/hero abilities and attacks.

Wording is "As an action a hero adjacent to a beacon can light it". Villagers are not heroes in this regard, so they cant do it by any means.

Villagers are treated as a hero figures, but only for OL cards and heroes skills. The can't loot search tokens and can't do other hero-ish stuff

Villagers in this quest don't even have attribute values, so I wonder how he passed the tests...

Oh, and the quest says: "each villager may perform a Move action and may either open or close a single adjacent door. Villagers cannot perform other actions."

This to me leaves no room for other interpretations.

Isn't there a rule that something with no attribute automatically fails tests?

Or maybe that's just something I read, on the reanimate card maybe?

Yes there is a rule. Monsters can't shrug off poison for example.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Regardless of definitions and jargon, this is the most definitive answer.
