ARC 170s (again)

By mazz0, in X-Wing

That reminds me - is there really any point giving a ship a single torpedo slot these days?

Nowadays? Yes. Post GC it's not a bad idea.

It used to be pointless.

Guidance Chips? Hmm, maybe. That's a case where this ship's primary weapon value of two will cost you.

I like how ffg couldn't even acknowledge where the arc comes from in their slide show. Unless their excuse is everyone knows about the ship already.

I love how this opens the door for more prequel era ships but sad that it's also more likely we won't see any factions or pilots from that era.

I just can't get over how pretty that model is...

True, but I'm OK with that. I could see Rebels getting an N1, which would be similar to a TIE l/n but with shields and a less good dial?

They dont want them to be overpowered like Scouts

N-1's with Princess Leia, Shara Bey, and Queen Sosha Soruna (like they did in the Shattered Empire comic series) would be cool.

as for Nora, nothing exists to get her TL + focus self sufficiently outside PTL. Scum keeps k4 all to itself, sadly. You'd have to build some very janky synergy otherwise and that's just no good

She has a few options:

PTL is the obvious one.

Experimental Interface is another, especially paired with R7-T1 to give you a target lock..

A combination of Ezra and R3-A2 would basically give her an Advanced Targeting Computer. Declare stress, spend TL to add focus result, convert to crit with Ezra.

She's a Rebel, so she can gain focus tokens and target locks through a host of synergy options: Garven, Dutch, Cracken, Esage, Kyle, and Shara Bey all serve as possible vectors to give her a focus or target lock. Then there are the other external sources, like Tracer Missiles or Squad Leader actions.

Shara even give the possibility of a combination attack: Norra uses PTL to get make a focused, target-locked attack on the defender, and spends Shara's target lock to add an extra focus result to the attack.

I just can't get over how pretty that model is...

Yeah, I'm REALLY happy it made it into the game. Loved that ship design from the moment I saw it - really looks like something from an older era, but still has clear design lineage to the OT ships. Basically it's absolutely perfect, aesthetically and thematically - Star Wars design has rarely been so incredibly on-point.

Downside, of course, is that it makes it glaring how lazy the design of the Z-95 and T-70 is.

It's funny how utterly high the design quality contrast is between the ARC and the three Disney-designed ships beside it.

One point I was blind to until I read a second time: FOUR ACES.

I'm really hoping that one of the ACES is generic, as I like not being limited to named pilots.

All the pilots are unique.

I hope all of them have an EPT, for some BB-8-PTL-Sabine-Connering.

All the pilots are unique.

Was hoping I'd misread or misunderstood. Doesn't matter, it's still a handsome ship.

Nah, you can see all the pilot names (at least, since we know Rebel pilots from the new 'canon' books and such) - and the cards show the 'unique' dot by all of them. So this is the first ship with no generic pilot.

  • Shara Bey (Poe's mom, from 'Shattered Empire' comic books)
  • Norra Wexley ("Snap" Wexley's mom, from 'Aftermath' novel)
  • Braylen Stram ('Blade Squadron' comics)
  • Thane Kyrell ('Lost Stars' novel)

Shame. But I could always custom the PS3 card into a generic with no unique ability.

Is Thane a bit crap in the comics then? PS3 for a named pilot is a little embarrassing!

Are these just characters from the comics who *could* fly ARCs (and maybe will in future), or hav they been seen to do so already?

Either way, this proves they've read the comic with Leia in an N1...

Do we know what Siesmic Torpedoes do? I must have missed that bit.

I think those are Seeking Torpedoes.

We don't know what they do, but the card has an Action: header.

My guess based off of the proxy mine wording is:

Action: Discard this card to choose an enemy ship within range 1-2 that is in your primary firing arc. Each ship at range 1 of the targeted ship rolls one attack die and suffers all damage (*) and critical damage (*) rolled. Then.....

Anybody noticed that the model in the box and the render in the article have different paint jobs?

actually saddened by its implementation

first, we missed a chance for the rebel ordnance boat

more relevant, though, is that it just seems really hard to use well. it's squishy and its pilot abilities don't help much at all. Nora's basically welded to PTL to get anything out of her ability,

At least c3po will give her 2 damage cancels (albeit at the cost of all her mods); r2d2 if the greens are good will give her 3 (r2 astro otherwise)

edit:

"It flies well at slower speeds, but struggles at higher speeds, featuring six green maneuvers at speeds "1" and "2," even while four of its seven higher-speed maneuvers are red."

so that's almost certainly the straights and banks

meaning bb-8 actually

Oh no! If only there was a title that this ship could take that let it change eye results with a focus tokens! Oh wait.

It allows the ARC to double up on Sabine bombs.

So this is the first ship with no generic pilot.

IG-88. Sort of.

WHATTHEWHAT?!

Where the hell did you get a box shot from?

These seem to be very far past prototype stage.

If they have display models boxed up already, how long do you guys predict it will take them to produce enough and distribute the models?

if only those worked on multiple results

or from the front

guess what? they dont

at least we have the holy trinity of Stay on Target, Hera and Targeting astromech. Not terribly amazing, but it's fun on the ps 6

Nevermind - found it!

...some really nice closeup shots, there, of the entire wave.

Very cool!

Hmm, and all of them very clearly having the different paint job. I wonder which one is final - are those models prototypes with an early paint job, or is the image in the article based on an old design?

I prefer the paint job in the article, particularly the wing tips; the ones on the model just look like they're showing the plastic under the paint (I know because I've scraped the pain off other models).
