Ten's 10's

By Englishpete, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So in these days of 2 ship builds with a large ship turret plus support I have been wracking my brain for a possible answer.

So I came up with this possible "Pete can fly it" list

I give you Ten's 10's

Horton Salm (32)

R2-D6, Ion Cannon Turret, Veteran Instincts

Luke Skywalker (33)

R2-D2, Veteran Instincts

Ten Numb (35)

Veteran Instincts, B-Wing/E2, Tactician

The list is all PS10 so all you PS9 tricky boys don't get to shoot first.

I get to pick the order I fire in.

Phantoms DO NOT like being ioned, they like stress and ioned even less.

All three ships bring survivability to the table.

No one ship is the obvious first target.

Salm is the perfect Ion Turret carrier for making that hit stick.

Ten makes the crit stick no matter what

Skywalker is an endgame nightmare.

So, thoughts?

Luke seems like a good choice to take against 2-ship builds. His defensiveness plus R2's regeneration should make him a huge pain to take down with limited firepower. The rest of the list I'm not so sure about. In theory, Ion/Stress control should be an effective counter to 2-ship lists, but large turreted ships don't mind staying in their green maneuvers, and you can only ionize them every other turn with this list.

I think you might be better off dropping Tactician on Ten Numb and replacing it with an Ion Cannon. Putting stress on a Phantom isn't as big of a deal when all of your ships shoot before it can recloak anyway. And two PS10 ion cannons should give PTL Dash a really bad day.

- Salm is the obvious first target, as he's the only turret. Any good Phantom player will stay at Range 3 (where his turret can't reach) and then clean up the other two ships after he's gone.

- Salm lacks the positional ability (Engine Upgrade) get ensure his hit sticks. Y-Wings are slow and struggle to turn.

- Skywalker isn't that much of a nightmare. You've only got three ships, so he can be focused down relatively quickly in a single turn. Don't forget that R2-D2 requires green moves; this makes Luke extremely predictable. Lone Wolf is a better choice and adds much more to survivability than Luke.

- For Luke, who doesn't need a focus for defence, R5-P9 is a great droid.
