Best Mistake Ever Made

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

For a light hearted topic, list the best mistake you have made in x-wing.

Mine, I was stressed and picked a red move then promptly flew off the board.

Dunno about best but most recent:

Humm, if i ram this b-wing it takes 1 damage, but my opponent will know i am going to do this and will line the other 2 b-wings to shoot me.

5 hull points less later.

Yeaaahh.

I flew in formation while my opponent had Vader with an assault missile. I thought that my formation was wide enough, but it turned out that every fighter was in range 1 of the intended target... fortunately, my opponent also made a huge mistake; that intended target was Dark Curse, so no rerolls and no focus; the attack missed ;)

Aargh.. Too many.. Too embarrassing... Maybe I'll man-up and 'fess all later...?

I once mind-gamed my opponent into flying a full-health Chewbacca off the board...

"Best" as in turned out the best or "best" as in had the most devastating impact?

"Best" would probably be a game with Stress Wes, Biggs, and 3 Bandits against Chiraneau Echo. The squadron was flying smoothly, until I realized Biggs was not where he was supposed to be (i.e, right the hell where Wes was supposed to go)

But lo, the Echo comes screeching around the side of the formation to land a nice shot on Biggs, which also put her at a perfect angle from where Wes bumped. Had he completed the maneuver, he would've overshot her and engine would not have fixed that :P

I once mind-gamed my opponent into flying a full-health Chewbacca off the board...

Just goes to show you how gullible some wookiees are.

His reaction?

URRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I hope Dracon got to keep his arms, though :(

i once flew a 6 tie swarm (Howl and 5 AP's) with backstabber flanking on the opposite side of the board. sadly i accidentally swapped Howl and Backstabber in deployment so i had Howl as a flanker that game. genius.

Best against me: had a Vassal game where Whisper and my N'Dru got into a face-off along the edge of the board. After a round of shooting, N'Dru did a hard 3-turn inward to block one of Whisper's decloak options. Unfortunately, the Whisper player had done a hard 1-turn towards the edge of the board and didn't have enough room to stay on the map. He flew himself off the board, untouched, by the end of round 4.

I don't make mistakes.

I allow my opponents opportunities...

I was playing a game awhile back, where my B wing was going parallel to the edge of the board, and I tried to fly past one of my own ships, but failed, so instead I decided to BR to get clear of where my other guy was going to land. I was all upset because I thought my B wasn't going to get any shots in because of that and that it had pretty much cost me the game.

Turns out, the barrel roll blocked one of his ships from completing his 3 turn, and knocked him off the board untouched. My opponent thought it was completely intentional and was like "man, I didn't even see that as a possibility when I picked 3 turn, I didn't think there was any way for you to block me." I didn't have the heart to tell him that it was a mistake and I didn't even notice that I did it.

Everytime I fly Kath Scarlet off the board I feel like she is cackling and flying off into the Corell sunset

Bounty hunters are not the most trust-worthy kind in the galaxy

"thanks for the credits, succkkkkerrrrrsssss~"

On numerous occasions, I've picked the wrong direction for a turn because I was looking at my ship facing towards me. Oops.

My first ever game with a Phantom, and probably my third or fourth game of X-wing in general. I still hadn't gotten used to manouvering, and declocking with Echo only made it more difficult. My brother, flying an XXB list, made short work of Echo's Interceptor escorts (a badly-flown duo of Soontir and Turr), leaving a novice Phantom versus three almost untouched Rebel ships. Deciding not to give up without a fight, I managed to survive for a couple of extra turns, and even took Wedge out meanwhile. I'd just decided that I might actually have a chance to win the fight... when I chose the wrong turn maneuver (and apparently couldn't decloak, for some reason) and flew right onto an asteroid, rolling a hit and ending Echo's moment of glory.

The Empire's Finest, ladies and gents.

One game I accidentally went right instead of left with my Outer Rim Smuggler. I remarked that I had made a mistake to my opponent and bemoaned the fact that I was going to hit the rock right in front of my ORS the next turn. My opponent 'graciously' offered to let me do the other move and I declined saying 'no - it was my mistake'. His Han promptly ran into the ORS and landed on the rock. Han spent the rest of the game on the rock ionized by the two gold squadron pilots.

The second time I tried a Decimator (and my first round in the vassal Escalation tournament), I boosted Kenkirk at the bottom corner of the board to avoid an arc, but the way he was angled from a previous bump, meant his 2 turn into the board would put his base slightly off the board. So my only choice was a 2 turn into the corner, giving him 1 more round of shots before he flew off. That sucked, and I knew it would happen as soon as I completed the boost.

This is an “epic” one :)

Playing a 2-on-2 epic game, I had the Tantive IV lined up to roll over a group of 3 TIEs that had been dog-fighting a Falcon and a X-Wing, so the X-wing just had to move out of the way and the Falcon had to block the TIEs and leave them in front on the Tantive IV and I told my partner this, I was just itching to plow over the TIEs and then I saw the Falcon moving… my partner underestimate the base size and move too much, he did block the TIEs, but left the Falcon where the Tantive IV was moving and also moved the X-wing to follow; end result, Tantive IV destroyed the Falcon, clip the X-Wing base and destroyed it too and the TIEs were unharmed.

So you guys pulled a Rusty Venture. Nice!

i've had a friend in 2 different tournaments fly echo off the board, while being in no danger whatsoever. both times granted me a come from behind win.

he doesnt like being paired with me now.

Last night I 'banzaied' an uncloaked Whisper into 2 B Wings and an Outrider, all rocking HLCs.

I then faceplanted Captain Oicunn into an asteroid, followed by a 1 turn, which again put him in a position surrounding by the above cannon boats.

Then there's my baby boy, but he's hardly a mistake!

There were 2 rounds where I kept ramming Vader into my opponent's stationary shuttle, forgetting that I lose my actions to get clear.

speaking of epic, i've seen a fully kitted shuttle (title, HLC, engine upgrade, rebel captive) get punted off the board at full health via transport ramming. it was incredible.

One day, I swear I'll try to slay a corvette by bashing Ties against it.

It will be no mistake, though.
