Command Cards query

By Wolfstan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

After playing the starter skirmish game a few times me and a mate decided next time to try the skirmish mission that comes with Luke. So to save time for next week we set about sorting out the map and forces so they would be ready to go straight out of the box. It was whilst sorting out the forces we encountered a command card query.

We noticed that it appeared that there was only one copy of certain command cards, which we thought was a bit odd. There appeared to be no restrictions on them, so how would you decide who had it? What about cards that allow you to have two copies of them? So I'm wondering if we are missing something here?

Does this mean that when you move onto playing the advanced games / building your force, that both parties are expected to have a copy of the main box set?

Examples:

Covering Fire. Worth 3 points, use with Troopers. Can't see that it is obviously restricted to a certain faction, unless the Stormtrooper helmet in the bottom right means it's Imperial only, but that icon can be found on the Shadow Ops card that is used by Mak Eshka'ra and Furious Charge for Gaarkhan.

Regroup. worth 1pt and can only be given to Leaders. A player can have two copies of it, but what about your opponent? They may want a copy. How is selection decided?

The 0 value cards seem ok. You can only have one of them, but there are 2 copies.

So am I being an idiot with my understanding of the command cards? :)

Skirmish generally assumes, like most competitive games, that you and your opponent have a full copy of the game.

Probably not the answer you were looking for, but there ya go.

Not good news on the one hand for my mate :( but at least that answers the question. Many thanks

The trooper helmet can be found on all the cards, that is the "expansion symbol" for IA.

I have the same issue you have, and it's a little annoying, but overall I'm so impressed with this game, I'm fine with letting one player build his deck first, then building my deck and army with what's left over. You could also draft the limited cards, if you want to add a little mini game to this.

Really you do need two copies to play this game at the top level right now so if you plan on playing skirmish in tournaments it might not be a bad idea for your friend to get one.

That being said I have had no problem building a light command deck and dark one with the cards right from the box. There are too many times building squads that I need a extra Elite Eweb or a card that there is only one of in the Core. This will also get addressed once wave 1 comes since we are getting 42 more command cards.

I think the officer swarm will be a big reason to get a second copy. Having a second probe droid could be worth it too.I think League will address this problem over time and thats why I have not got a second copy yet. Also figured I could borrow a card from a friend since a lot of the time the card I want a second of is not a common card as others right now.
