Well, as many of you know I don't play very often, the holidays was a total kill in that regard, but lately we had played just a little more.
So I got the Deep Realms and set it up for play this weekend past. Although we didn't get down and deep very much it was a very good game, probably the best in a while.
I guess I'm defining best/ good as no great set backs, although that was in the cards, literally, later.
For purposes of our play, we stretched it over a couple of nights; Friday, a little, maybe an hour, as we started late and I had to work on Saturday. Then Saturday for 3 to 4 hours, and then Sunday about 3.
My wife was the first to enter the Deep Realms, the bridge and of course it cost her. This was probably the beginning of the end of easy-wins for us. BTW, she was the Elementalist, and played it like a champ - she leveled up very fast. She also had 2 or more followers that added to Craft or Strength and of course she saves her pennies to purchase her weapon of choice, the Flail. Though that didn't really happen until a little after half our game time.
I was the Prophetess which I find a formidable player and of advantage in our "delay-the-Dragon-scales" house rule - so I was able to keep Dragons off the table for at least a quarter of the game time. Also lucked out on some nice objects myself. I entered the Woodlands getting the Wyrd path, I believe, which allowed me to grab a Destiny, which was The Cursed. Things got a little confusing because it was similar to a Book of Binding I found in the Woodlands, and I actually later ditched or forfeited the Book to some effect, as it was somewhat confusing to do attack totals.
But we still mostly love Woodlands and the Fae and the changes with Fate.
Eventually, from the City side, I stepped out into the bridge but fared less well than my wife, losing some valuable life points that became hard for me to heal. Due to having The Cursed Destiny, the Scribe and some KILL-spells, I decided that I should use my follower, the Demogauge (sic) and truly turn to my Dark Side, so I became evil - just to be clear, so I could keep cycling and evil point draining spell on her or creatures - and not pretend I was this pretty, Blond do-gooder.
My reign of evil was not to last. And it was sad because by the time we resumed on Sunday and played that last 3 hours, I had leveled up quite a bit. I had found a Talisman, I wasn't still really strong enough to "go up" but my wife was and I wasn't sure what I could do.
A previous played card had taken 10 Woodland cards and placed them on the main Adventure Deck and the last of those, that she picked up, was
The Toad King. It broke her, oh my Gawd-ess, it broke her. She conceded the game to me, though I tried to get her to play on. But she had so many objects, gold and followers she just didn't want to hop along after the King. So I won! The Alt ending we never encountered was one of the Ifrit ones were everything does a not quite so slow burn till its DONE. But during the game there were a number of Fireland cards in play. I also had a follower, the Royal Masons, who could terraform the land at the end of your turn.
Down in the Deep Realm, the treasures that were not taken included The Bag of Holding, The Clockwork Owl, a Great Sword and more.
