Stores with kits not running Championships?

By PLR, in X-Wing

Does anyone know what FFG's official take is on store's not running Championship events which are listed on the FFG site as hosting one?

A local store with two locations, is listed on the FFG site for store championships.

It was strange to see them listed as they sell X-wing minis but neither location has any gaming room and to my knowledge have never run a single game.

A friend mentioned that the store planned on selling the kits on eBay. This is just hearsay but he does shop there...

I called to ask, but was told by the store, "they never received the kits to host the event"...

If they bought them then I guess they are theirs to do with as they please.

But buying kits and not hosting is a ****'ish move, imho.

Still worth an email to FFG OP.

Agreed, I know in my local area FLGS's wanting to host can't as the kits have been assigned to other stores. I'd personally rather have an active x-wing COMMUNITY than a load of insular independents more interested in capital gain than concomittantly advancing the community/game (and ironically making bigger capital gains in the long run...)

Last year I reported a store selling the kit on Ebay to FFG, and the listing was removed from Ebay by the end of the day. Sadly, I saw it listed under a different username the following week (which i reported as well). At a mimimum, FFG does not endorse selling the kits, so reporting it may not change the outcome of this kit, but it can blacklist the store in the future.

Report the store

It won't stop them from selling it, but at least make it more difficult.

Also hopefully prevent them from getting the next one

What store is it?

Just be sure they have one.... I know 2 stores in my area applied for kits and the first store got there kit at beginning of January where they other store just got theres last week and haven't set a time or day yet.

Sounds fishy, if they say they didn't get the kit, they should be contact FFG.

Email FFG directly about it

Yeah it's not on so send ffg an e-mail.

It is still possible for stores too small to have a dedicated gaming area to hold tourneys. One of the Imdaar Alpha events I attended was in a small store that had maybe 500 sq feet of space. Fortunately only six people showed for the tourney. We made it work with folding tables and boxes.

I'm considering going to a store champ that isn't being held in the store that's hosting. They have rented a hall to allow for more space.

Selling tourney kits is not allowed by FFG. Report the store, and any eBay sales you see, and they'll be forced to take down the sale and will probably not be allowed to buy more kits

Once again I am impressed with FFG's service. They contacted me and are looking into the situation.
It's possible the store didn't get any kits so at this point I definitely give the store the benefit of the doubt.

If the store didn't get their kit, either they should (if they still want it), or they should be taken off the list so there is less confusion (if they don't want it). If they did get the kit, they should send it back, or they probably won't get any tournament or game night kits ever again.
