Rebel XYZ+HWK Ion - 100pt (First Tourney List)

By hivestar, in X-Wing Squad Lists

You may also view the list here.

Dutch Vander (Y-wing)

+Ion Turret

Kyle Katarn (HWK-290)

+Recon Specialist

+Ion Turret

Rookie Pilot (X-Wing)

+Ion Torpedo

+Munitions Failsafe

Bandit Sq. Pilot (Z-95 Headhunter)

+Ion Pulse Missile

+Munitions Failsafe

I went to a shop to play for the first time (usually just play with my friend) with the first iteration of this list. I originally had a tricked out Keyan instead of the X-Wing and Headhunter. I barely won vs Whisper+Oicunn and felt the B-wing went down too easy to justify the 40 pts I'd invested.

So, I added some range 3 ion. I had to sacrifice Pilot Skill to accomplish this though.

Let me know what you think!

I'd scrap one of the Ion Torpedoes to give the Rookie the Stressbot.

With that much ionization, that's the only way to turn the screw harder ;-)

For the same points as Rookie+MF+Ion Torp

I can get Hobbie (Xwing)+R3-A2!

That sounds fun :)

lots of control with the stressbot and ions on all four ships....lacks punch though

I found that bolstering my attacks with the token sharing provided by Dutch and Kyle shored up a lot of my lack of punch.

Really though, it's all about piling on ion tokens. It took surprisingly little time to put enough ion on a Decimator to ensure it drifted off the board.

Cloaked phantoms can't shoot, Ion'd phantoms can't de-cloak. With only 4hp, it didn't take long killing Whisper 1 damage at a time without fear of reprisal.

But! I need to play his list more to really find out how effective it is. I am waaay inexperienced at shop play and I need to go up against the strongest lists in the meta.

I think I'd have hard time against swarms.

I good phantom pilot will stay at range three and pew pew you to death

Swarms and four ship rebels will be tough

That's what the ion missiles are for. I was able to easily take down a phantom with the first version of my list, but haven't played it enough yet to say that I can rely on my one range 3 ion option, if I sub out the rookie+ion torp for hobbie+r3-a2

I really want to play against more/experienced phantom pilots! Peeps in the STL, MO area should join me and my buddy at the shop for a game!

This list (With Hobbie+R3-A2 instead of Rookie X-Wing) is now 4-0 vs Whisper+Various Decimators (And sometimes a TIE Fighter as well).

I'll be taking it to my first League on Monday!

your list has a nice possibility of hobbie being TL and focused. Are you seeing the opponents go for dutch or kyle first?

im thinking that if they usually go for dutch first maybe tweak the list to the one below, but would lose the TL/free focus for hobbie (he'd still be TL focused with his own focus though)

dutch+ICT+r7t1(boost out of arcs)

hobbie+stressbot

bandit +IPM

They seem to go for the HWK first. The focus sharing out to range 3 is very useful and doesn't go down as easy as people think.

I like Dutch slightly less, since his sharing is only out to range 2 and circling a Decimater took me out of range 2 half the time. But when he gets his ability off, especially early game, I give TL to the HWK or Headhunter.

It is very important to ensure every ion hits. I don't believe I ever gave a TL or Focus to the X-Wing, since he auto stresses with his astromech.

To be honest, I haven't lost a ship in the last 3 games with this list.

In the last two games combined I received 1 damage card total.

I ran it three times yesterday with a slight alteration

dutch+ICT+r7t1

roark+ICT+reconspec

hobbie+r3a2

bandit+IPM

in all three matches they went after hobbie first. When i later asked why they said he looked like the only heavy hitter in the group. dishing out the stress from R3A2 combined with dutch's ability was nice. Hobbie died in all three matches but his presence was felt with TL attacks and dealing out stresses that set up my ions. I won all three matches while only losing hobbie... Really like the list...concerned about how it would deal with a swarm of any kind

I just got home from trying a slight modification (still undefeated):

instead of Hobbie, take Tarn Mison

Use the extra points to put Wingman on Kyle.

Dutch+ICT
Kyle+ICT+ReconSpec+Wingman
Tarn Mison+r3a2
Bandit+IPM+MF

I feel like this makes me even more resistant to stress. Especially when my whole list gets Mara Jade'd ganging up on a decimator (Or vs other control lists). I like that this list doesn't need actions to continue locking down the opponent.

R7-T1 sounds really fun.

I agree about the swarms. I've yet to run against one, but my first league match is tomorrow!
