2009 Nationals: Top 8 Predictions

By Teric Aylor06gt, in UFS General Discussion

Unforunately I will not be able to attend this year's Nats tourney. Though I will be in full support of Scott Gaines and good luck to Ben Shoemaker and Scuba. I just wanted to see which characters you think be in the top eight.

In no particular order:

Akuma

Jon Herr

Chun Li

Mignon

Andrew Olexa

Donovan

Gill

Zangief

seong mina

zi mie
chun li
andrew olexa
Jon Herr/Alex

Lord of the Makai may be present for Nationals, but Gill better not top 8.

Is zi mei promo or not? which is better anyways?

I hear two top end players may be playing him, so I'm pretty sure he'll top 8.
Although it would be funny if no chun li top 8'd at this nationals although I seriously doubt it because apparently she is her own symbol.

We are taking about Promo Zi mei, she is faster and has more control elements plus that little pitchfork symbol that a lot of people seem to love.

Bah, Zi Mei stands no chance at winning until post-bans, if even.

I resent that statement as I've dropped people as early on turn 2 after going second (with a 1st turn anti k') . Zi Mei is very powerful and fury of the ancients is a very explosive attack with a minimum of 16 damage and going upwards of 20-25 damage no problem. Not bad for a 5 difficulty attack with a 3 check. Her kill turn is ussually on turn 3 though and she has access to manifest destiny, and can commit your opponents key cards in their staging areas.

I feel Zi Mei can top if the right player/build comes along. She did top at Canadain Nats, but I feel AKuma & Herr are better and she is in 3rd to 4th best tied with Ibuki. After the ban list takes effect, I could definitely she her getting better, with Death/Evil being her main two symbols. Plus there will be more 4cc in the deck whick make her pump effect more consistent.

I actually hope and believe that promo Alex will make top eight.

Fury of the Ancients is actually a 6-diff to play. Still, i love love love this card, as it creates a very powerful and reliable Kill condition for nearly any character that runs it. <ahem! 4.Fei Long - cough!>

Zi Mei is an amazing character; she has top 8'd almost every regional.

However, she hasn't won any, the reason why is the only reason that stops her: she lacks a decent defensive/draw game.

Her R can somewhat backfire if done improperly (in that you have committed your things), and her symbols have next to no access to draw. As far as defense goes, she's pretty much limited to Cutting Edge and Rejection, which, while they do a good job certainly, they aren't enough IMO.

I'm sure she'll top, but I just don't see Zi Mei winning, at least, not pre-ban...

Actually, Fire has A Year's Difference for selective card draw. It's an underused card, imo.

God how could you?!

Haha well he really doesn't fall into the traditional Evil or Air character category. He is like a mutt lol.

Screw Hanzo. I'm looking forward to the day we have Air/Earth aggro Hanzo to abuse his E.

Sorry to break the news, but Jeremy has been playing Seong Mina lately and Paul is a secret agent.
