I am going to be deploying soon, and unfortunately my x-wing itch has only gotten worse recently. I should have internet available while I'm there, and was wondering if there were any friendly vassal groups that I could try to hop in with? It seems like the vast majority of vassal games are set up previously, and not started from the vassal lobby.

Not sure about others, but usually doesn't take longer than 10-15 min to find a game
No need to join a specific group, as there really aren't any and it is a rather larger community. There are tourneys and a ladder ranking if you're into that, but otherwise, it's very easy to just find a pickup game.
I've also only ever played from the lobby. If you just sit there with the exclamation point by your name, someone will usually message you. Alternately, send a message to someone with the exclamation point, or just ask in the chat, "Anyone up for a match?"
That's great to hear, I thought I was going to have to go without it that whole time haha!
Yeah, I'm with the rest of the guys on this one, all you have to do is use the ! Next to your name and a game will find you.

I kind of compiled a list of players here on the forums who are willing to help people out if you do not have a whole lot of experience!
I'm on often, and I'm willing to help new players. I'm pretty familiar with vassal (but I do type a bit slow).
You'll need to download these files (or the most recent versions):
Star_Wars_X-Wing_Miniatures_Game-5.2.2.vmod
And this one has the most of the setup for the individual ships already completed. It's not absolutely necessary but it helps a great deal:
Squad_Building_Templates-5.2.2.zip
And this last one has all the templates and tokens setup on the sideboard. Again, not crucial, but it can help.
