Imperial Raider Spoiler!

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

I can't wait to have full-on epic games with 4 Raiders and 4 CRs trading barrages with each other while little squadrons squabble around with each other in the crossfire.

I am also excited for the day I can point a CR at a Raider and get to shout out "Ramming speed!" when I reveal a 4-straight maneuver right into their broadside.

The Raider seems better suited to ramming. It can shoot its way in, while the CR-90 would have to spend quite a few turns trying to turn from broadside- to bow-on.

Because acronyms contribute to the dumbing down and overall laziness of the human race?

Ugh, even if I were in agreement with the premise that the human race is declining as a species, then I hardly think that acronyms would be to blame.

No, I think it's because I don't identify with the X=OP!! crowd, and the acronym OP, when it is used with the meaning that we are here referring to (rather than as 'Original Poster/ing'), tends to go along with a distasteful whine.

As a side note: I only just realized that the Raider has fewer crew slots than the Decimator.

Don't forget the Raider also gets Team slots.

Bah! Teams aren't people!

Neither are Bothans but people are always telling us how many of them died to do something.

You mean like a vinegary Beaujolais? An overly fruity California chardonnay? I do actually find them overpowering sometimes.

Indeed, exactly that.

Though, with common as it has been around here sometimes, you'd think it was a box of Franzia.

Bothans are Lemmings. Always dying in the line of duty.

100 points for 16 hull and 10 shield unequipped? Anything the rebels will field for 100 points will make this thing evaporate.

Any Epic ship without a proper screen should be a fairly easy kill for a well built squad. :)

Think of the a 500 point/side game each with two Epic ships chewing up 200+ points.

There is no such thing as a screen. Biggs does not work and any other ship can't do anything to prevent small ships from firing at the huge target. It is not that hard to focus fire in X-Wing anyway and huge ships are the easiest target: utterly predictable and well... huge. The corvette is like a Napoleonic sailing ship: you fire the first broadside and that's it. You never get enough energy for another because you are too busy repairing shields and hull.

With all the talk about energy, I would like to see the dial.

I'm hoping that it will give a bit more than the 3 on the CR90.

I would like to see a 4 or even a 5 energy, and a one straight also....

Why do you want the Raider to be more cost effective than the Corvette?

Biggs works in cinematic play.

Well I guess the Dark Side is getting to me. And to compensate for the cost.

And that i would like to fire all my guns every turn. (I know a bet lame)

Biggs can be fielded in epic, but his ability can't screen a huge ship.

12 X4 table.

6 -10 people.

125 points each.

half pick a capital ship to deck out.

half get a 125 point squadron.

go.

I call it: Now that's what I call epic - volume 1.

I'd add that destroyed capitals become capital sized obstacles as per the rulebook, and that other ships become debris fields if killed by a crit.

Can someone explain to me why Navigator is so overpowered on Epic ships? I am not following. The Navigator says "When you reveal a maneuver, you may rotate your dial to another maneuver with the same bearing. You cannot rotate to a red maneuver if you have any stress tokens." which doesn't seem overpowered to me.

I see no reason for Fleet Officer to be banned from Epic Ships.

First off, he's a fleet officer. His name SOUNDS like he should be on a huge ship, boosting allied ships from the safety of a bridge.

Second, the Raider costs 100 points, making it the most expensive ship in the entire game. For 100 points, I'm willing to let a single point of stress slide.

And lastly, I think of the Fleet Officer as a crew that was designed to be Huge-Ship-Only - but has the added ability of "But if you use it on smaller ship, you take a stress when using him". Think of him as a brilliant leader, who gets all grumpy and angry if he can't have his coffee in the morning. IE he's more relaxed on a Huge Ship.

If the Raider turns out to be very effective against fighters (possibly due to epic-only crew or team options), CR90s outfitted with turbolasers may be a hard counter to anti-fighter Raiders.

The Raider is natively better at dealing with snub nosed fighters than the CR-90. For one, it's main gun fires at targets in Range 2. I forget how many times the CR-90 didn't have shots at anything once the fight really got into it. Also, the front section gets to fire twice. So, that's two attacks with four red dice against something close.

@shmitty: I'll have to try Single Turbo Lasers out. I've dismissed them as not worth it until we see the Raider. Thanks for the tip!

I think it will be an interesting dynamic with the CR-90 getting to fire at Range 5, but then wanting to give a broadside while the Raider wants to slow roll and blast with guns blazing.

I don't think it'd be overpowered myself. It's like a slightly better version of the coordinate action that you pay for in squad points and slot investment.

Doing it wrong. ALL of it wrong.

Because Huge ships automatically destroy any small/large ship they overlap. If Huge ships had the option to change which way they were turning how fast they were moving after they saw where all the enemy ships went they could plow right through the priority targets with ease, and not even accumulate stress because, well, huge ship.

edited to fix. Navigator is not Boba Fett

This. I once flew an academy squadron swarm at a CR90 with navigator. It was bloody nasty.

In the same game, the CR90 one shotted Turr Phenirr at range 4.

I did not win that game.

Navigator doesn't let you change the direction you turn, it lets you change the sppeed, and on huge ships that's either one or two, it's really not that ppwerful because there is very little difference between huge ships moving two bank or one bank, and you shouldn't be flying head long into them anyways.

Yes, but a CR90 tends to like to store power, if it can see it can get an easy quick kill navigator grants it.
