Imperial Raider Spoiler!

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

Another player from our So-Cal X-Wing group found this little gem on Game Trade Magazine:

"Random Intel: There is an article in Game Trade Magazine #180 that shows a bit more of the Imperial Raider. Each half is 50 points and the front section is range 2 to 4 with 4 attack dice. It also seems it can spend 2 energy after a primary weapon attack to make another one but it's partially hidden in the photo..."

55% battery life. You may want to plug in...

No way. Live on the edge. Take that puppy down to %5.

It didn't have any of the new Advance Pilots :(?

Fantastic, and even better than I thought it'd be. This thing is going to be a brute. You'll be able to keep your nose pointed at the targets, keeping your unreinforced Aft section (which holds all of your crew and most of your teams) safe from harm, and get up to three attacks per turn. The aft section can then be dedicated to Quad Laser batteries.

26 total hp

That's two more than the Tantive, and it has one extra energy

More need more info

bring all ion weaponry to bear on the raider men.

lol personally I think it's way better than the Tantive already.

How does Game Trader magazine get info that FFG hasn't release yet? There must be a mole...

I always thought bothans looked more camel like...

I want this now...... put an engine upgrade on the boat this one is on for the love of god............

Because FFG released the info to them. GTM is a trade magazine circulated to game stores to let them know what is coming up that they may want to stock.

The battles are definitely close. Tantive has the edge in starting range (5 vs 4 for the main guns) and strength of the main gun (up to five dice). However, it'll struggle to set up attacks with its Fore hardpoint weapons that won't also expose the aft section to fire, as it's basically set up for broadsides. The Raider has an edge in overall forward firepower, and can keep shooting at closer ranges without exposing its aft to the CR90's weapons.

Many Bothans died to bring us this information...

This is a Lancer Frigate in Star Destroyer clothes.

Yeah, it looks like GTM gets an "enhanceable" version of the card fans we see.

So, a little shorter range than the Corvette, equal in the hardpoints, but can still shoot more often. A second attack of 4 is better than a 5 die attack.

Or is a Lancer a Raider in famous male organ clothes?

We'll need to see the crew options, but in a vacuum it'll be close. The CR90's loss of a second attack is balanced by the fact that its attacks will be stronger, allowing it to overwhelm the Reinforce token. The primary salvos will basically play out along the lines of:

R5

CR90: 5v3 plus a guarenteed evade

R4

CR90: 5v2 plus evade

Raider: 4v2 plus evade, twice

R3

CR90: 5v1 plus evade

Raider: 4v1 plus evade, twice

I'm sure someone will mathwing it, but it looks like the CR90 probably has the edge in the R4-5 bracket, while the Raider gets the edge at closer ranges.

Nice find can't wait for this to arrive.

It is rather unfortunate that there is no way to convert focus results into hit results with an Imperial Huge ship. Because, yeah: 2 attacks on 2 different targets in the primary weapons part of this ship's attack is beastly. But most of that shooting will be done at ranges 3-4, where the defender gets an extra 1-2 green dice. In a way, that's Minda nice: it will make B-Wings and Y-Wings as vulnerable as standard Ties, but gives A-Wings 5 defense dice. Which means you'll want the Squints trying to down the A-Wings ASAP- or else your own Bombers will be vulnerable on their run against a CR-90.

Or maybe those A-Wings have Ion missiles, to really mess up the Raider's day...

The dial (or, specifically, the energy numbers on the dial) will probably make or break this ship. From the higher energy cap, two extra shields, possibility of two primary attacks per round (three with Gunner!), I can't imagine it will also have better energy generation. We're already getting a heck of a lot for just a 10 point increase over the CR90.

I guess we'll see if Empire gets a Han Solo crew equivalent, as all of those primary attacks won't do much if the only modification it can get is a single Target Lock.

I think while the 2 attack thing is cool, the lack of a turret main weapon really doesn't make sense on a Huge ship. The Huge ships turn so ponderously(as they should in relation to fighters) it will be very difficult to keep fast things in your firing arc. And with no range 5 attacks, it will only be a turn or two(more if they go slow of course) before an attacking figher/bomber is out front arc and in your side/rear arc, so you will not get many shots at fast targets. With the CR90 you effectively have a turret that is like 270 degrees around, where as this is like 90 degrees or so. We will have to wait and see.

Keep in mind that we haven't seen the crew options yet. I'd be very surprised if they don't receive an option to acquire two target locks on the same ship, or a Han Solo Crew analogue to help them modify dice results.

The tradeoff to the lack of a turret is that they'll get very good Hardpoint coverage compared to the Tantive. The Tantive's hardpoints are both aimed from the sides of the ship in roughly 90-degree arcs. It has almost zero forward firepower, and the ability to overlap the front and rear arcs is fairly limited.

The Raider has a very wide front arc that appears to extend from the midpoint of the ship to the back of the plastic base. It's probably in the neighborhood of 120-150 degrees. It's rear arc is also much wider than the one on the CR90, so it doesn't have much in the way of blind spots.

Would fleet officer work in this case?

Would fleet officer work in this case?

If you mean, "Will the Raider be able to use it to gain focus tokens?" No, it would have to discard them under the rules for Huge ships.

That said, considering its firing arcs cover almost everything except for the spot right behind the engines, this guy is absolutely begging for a Tactician or two.
