Tapestry Rewoven

EDIT: please read and offer corrections! Is this right? sorry forgot to actually say where I was going with this thread

Hi all, so when you draw Tapestry Rewoven from The Woodland , it replaces the current Alternative Ending with a random hidden one. This is all well and good when the current ending is a hidden one, yet to be revealed...but sometimes there are ambiguities when the ending actually is active and has ongoing effects. This can be due to:

- a revealed ending, or

- any ending that is currently being encountered by the character on the Crown of Command while Tapestry Rewoven is drawn.

Normally you would just ignore the instructions and restrictions from the ending you are discarding, as they would no longer apply, and a character on the Crown would encounter the new ending card on his next turn. But here is my attempt at resolving some ambiguities that might arise.

The "straightforward" consequences are in small text , but those that are up for debate are in large text.

Have a look, share your thoughts.

The Reaper

Danse Macabre: The Reaper no longer subtracts 1 from his rolls.

The Frostmarch

Warlock Quests: When replaced, characters with more than one active quest return cards of their choice to the deck, shuffling them, until each has no more than one active quest. Facedown completed quests are removed from the game. Active quests possessed by killed characters are shuffled back into the deck.

Crown and Sceptre: When replaced, characters can once again heal and gain life, but may not attack each other in psychic combat unless another ability allows it.

Ice Queen: No changes.

The Highland

Battle Royale: No changes. (Impossible to find Tapestry Rewoven once encountered.)

Hand of Doom, Eagle King: No changes.

The Sacred Pool

Sacred Pool: When replaced, all facedown Quest Rewards and any faceup held by killed characters are discarded and removed from the game.

Demon Lord: When replaced, the Portal of Power is unlocked.

Judgement Day: No changes.

The Dragon

Domain of Dragons: When replaced, characters cannot claim scales for the rest of the game. Scales already in possession can be used against face-up Dragon Cards. Remove the Dragon King from the game and ignore effects that refer to it.

Dragon Slayers, Dragon King: No changes.

The Blood Moon

Lightbearers: Return fate on the Ending card to the stock.

Horrible Black Void, Blood Moon Werewolf: No changes.

The City

Merchant's Guild: When replaced, characters discard down to their Object limit.

Assassin's Guild: When replaced, all facedown Wanted Posters and any faceup held by killed characters are shuffled back into the deck.

Thieves' Guild: When replaced, if more than 30 gold is in play, discarded gold is removed from the game until 30 is left. Characters cannot gain gold until less than 30 is in play.

The Firelands

Spreading Flames: When replaced, remove all Firelands tokens on spaces in excess of 1. If more than 34 Firelands tokens are in play, discarded Firelands tokens are removed from the game until 34 are left. Firelands tokens cannot be placed until less than 34 are in play.

A Hero Rises: When replaced, if more than 36 fate is in play, discarded fate is removed from the game until 36 are left. Characters cannot gain or replenish fate unless less than 36 fate is in play.

Crown of Flame: When replaced, remove the Crown of Flame from the game and return the Firelands token to the box.

The Woodland

Wanderlust: When replaced, all facedown Paths and any faceup held by killed characters are discarded. Then, three faceup Paths are placed next to The Woodland.

War of Seasons: When replaced, characters may enter the Crown of Command a second time if the War of Seasons ending has already been encountered. Killed characters do not respawn if the Crown of Command has been encountered once.

Judged by Fate: No changes.

The Nether Realm

The Gauntlet: When replaced, shuffle all facedown Nether Cards into the Nether deck. Faceup Nether Cards remain on their spaces. If a space is encountered, including the Crown of Command, Nether Cards must be encountered first.

The Hunt: When replaced, place facedown Nether Cards on the discard pile.

Pandora's Box: When replaced, a character on the Crown discards his Nether Cards. Characters may now heal or gain life again and enter the Portal of Power and Crown of Command.

This was a worthy question and you have done a good examination of all possible scenarios. You've only inverted Thieves' Guild with Merchants' Guild.

No rules to quote here, only a couple of comments.

It's quite weird to replace an Ending that has been already encountered and is being resolved outside the Crown of Command (e.g. Spreading Flames, Crown of Flame, Judged by Fate, which have the Hidden Icon, and the War of Seasons), but it can be done without many problems, apparently.

As a general rule, you should cancel any special rules introduced by the Ending and discard all cards that you may not have, except within the boundaries of the Ending.

Characters on the Crown of Command encounter the new Alternative Ending on their first turn there.

The most troublesome effects are those that break the "Limited Resources" rule, especially if at the point of drawing Tapestry Rewoven the limit has already been passed. You need a rule like the one you created to return to the standard situation, even though I would prefer to immediately eliminate the extra resources instead of waiting for them to be spent, following the same concept of facedown cards. It won't be so difficult if proxies are used, but if you bought extra original pieces (e.g. extra gold, extra fate, extra fireland tokens), then you must find another way. An idea would be to discard 1 token per character, starting from the one who encountered Tapestry Rewoven, and proceed this way until the normal number of tokens is left in the game.

Of course if all these complications are too much for your taste, it's better to pull Tapestry Rewoven out of the Woodland deck.
