The Turret rules Cincinnati...

By JESIV, in X-Wing Battle Reports

...for now at least.

I Played in a 12 player tourney last night at Art of War, and without the specific upgrades here is how the top 5 looked:

1st - YT2400- YT1300

2nd - Double YT1300

3rd - YT1300 - Ewing

4th - Decimator - Tie Int - Tie Fighter

5th - Decimator - Phantom

6th - was yours truly with a Phantom - Tie Bomber - 3 Tie Fighter - The highest ranked build w/o a single turret. I was 2 and 2 with a modified win and a 2 point loss mixed in.

7-12 - All but one (maybe 2) ran a list w/o at least one turret. (A lot of decimators showed up).

I'm trying to compete w/o a turret but the reality is my skill level (average at best) needs the 'user friendly-ness' of a turret. I may give it one more shot w/o before Scum shows up.

I'd be interested to hear of other non-turreted lists doing well in other markets.

Well I already posted my peronsal lists in the squads on the edge thread

I also saw an interesting configuration last sunday

Space Fringer X 2

-H.L.C

-Intelligence Agent

Blue Squadron

-F.C.S

I don't really count the HLC Fringers as turrets since there such a steep decline of offense against targets outside their arc, but there you go

The 3 out of 13 lists that did not have a turret sadly did not do well. I had a shot at first going by how amazing well two Bounty Hunters held out against fatties and phantoms, but I threw it all out (every single game) with some last minute head-slappingly incompetent flying.

Scum should help narrow the turrets a bit when Interceptors (and to a lesser extent, A-wings, Vipers, and Aggressors) get better defense against them, but turrets will always be powerful. Anything that takes the most skill-intensive element of the game (maneuvering) and reduces it to nil, and then pile on the defense to keep themselves alive, will always be strong

Don't use swarms don't do it!!

Don't use swarms don't do it!!

I'm warming up my tie fighters as we speak....or maybe Headhunters. Maybe 8 headhunters each with a unique paint scheme (I just now thought of that :))

A-wing for the win, all A-wings...

I played in this tournament as the only other person who didn't bring a turret. I brought:

Rookie Pilot x 3 (63)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Prototype Pilot (15)

In went 1-3, finished towards the bottom. I came down to the final hull point on a decimator, and then again on a falcon, without destroying either. So I feel like I could've been 3-1. Being able to re-roll or alter dice results is key for a swarm to beat the big ships.

Will you be there this coming Monday night (weather permitting of course)? If they go with the 50 minute rounds again, I may cave into a tanky turret build of some kind.

I got 3rd in a 16-person tournament today with the only non-turreted (and the only more-than-2-ship) list in the top 4.

Echo + ACD, RecSpec, FCS, VI

Soontir + Hull, PtL, Targeting Computer

Doomshuttle

Played in a 10-player tourney at Borderlands in Salem, Oregon yesterday.

1. Chewbacca, Leebo (4-0)

2. Rexler, Dark Curse, Mauler all with Stealth Devices (3-1)

3. Tarn and 6 Bandits (2-2)

4. Rexler, Jonus, Omicron (2-2)

Turrets domination is coming to an end. There really is no reason to get worked up about the big fatty ships any more. Autothrusters will have a larger impact of the current meta then most expect.

Just posted in my A-wing Aces thread about my last Store Championship. 8/10 turrets. got to third place with three A-wings. I'm glad the turret's reign is coming to an end.
