Heroes for the future?

By slim2none, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I've been constantly shocked by the amount of love for Shadows of the Empire. Both the Novel and Graphic novel were... mediocre at best, but I digress.

I'd like to see some of the archetypes of the rebellion explored a bit more. In the films and EU, most of the rebellion's volunteers were idealistic kids hoping to make the galaxy a better place (Luke, Keyan, Ace, Dak, etc.) - Maybe a character who doesn't start with much in terms of standard abilities, but offers a lot broader and more powerful class cards - a wide-eyed, impressionable kid who brings nothing (initially) to the table but his/her devotion and enthusiasm, willing to take up whatever role he/she can do the most good: A character with more versatility as to what the character's experienced self can be: A larger number of high XP cost cards have prerequisites (of the lower cost cards). You get to chose which direction you want the character to steer his/her career in the Rebellion. A handful of cards aimed at the 'soldier' archetype, a handful more in an engineer//grenadier/AoE type role, and a few cards with a scout type role: information gathering abilities and movement bonuses.

I love the amount of customization available between characters, but a character whose specialization is customization would be fun in and of itself.

I'm also VERY MUCH for the Pilot/Astromech-pair character. I think that fits well into the universe, and adds a dynamic that's otherwise not part of the game.

I'm for anything that adds a bit to the roleplaying aspect of the game. I've said this before but I really think FFG needs to add character bios to help with this.

The pilot/astromech idea is great. The visual of a guy in the x-wing flight suit alone is a classic.

A droid is a must.

I really like the idea of a character that produces Attachments with his/her xp deck, similar to the Technological Superiority deck for the Imperial player. Maybe with slight variations on what they do depending on if they get handed off to other characters or if the tech guy uses them himself. Someone that could hand out buffs or create his own BFG could be neat, and would really be open for any SW race to fill.

Maybe he pulls from a different crate deck as he McGyvers something out of a box of sprockets and paper clips in the middle of a firefight.

More of a traditional bounty hunter type would be interesting. Pro-rebel but still doing her own thing, maybe with two weapon options right out of the gate in a 'prepared for any situation' kind of way. I'm sure there could be an interesting bounty related character deck.

Really loving this game :)

What about an alien rebel with mixed experience like general and diplomat. He could be a Gungan or something. I'd name him something like Cancan, Bottlebottle, or Jugjug Dinks. His abilities could include annoyances and interferences that cause evades and blocks to all figures friendly and enemy and accidental damage to imperials and accidental stuns to rebels. He would manage to take no damage, it would be transferred to allies and enemies.

Still like the idea of a hero demolitionist.

Many of their upgrades will be deplete use grenades.

Base ability spend a strain and may reroll a grenade attack.

Second abilty, lost on wounding, when attacking with a grenade increase the range by 1 square.

Another upgrade, 4 points.

Breaching charge

You may place two tokens on either side of a wall, this removes a section of wall and the tokens become difficult terrain.
